Another example of the kind of support in Wellington over Auckland. The Kingz, and then the Knights, were based in Auckland and struggled for support. I know the Phoenix are still new but the support is there for them even though they were last and are again struggling. They did a fantastic job promoting the team last year and with that sort of promotion for a league team I think you could double the crowd figures of the Phoenix. ah, you mentioned promotion and Rugby league there not usually something we are great at! but seriously there are some interesting points there beez Shane Smeltz is hardly a household name in Wellington but I bet a Wellington NRL team would be able to sign numerous household names. shano probably isnt a household name anywhere, I just know who he is because he played for my old side, and Im a sad AFC wimbledon supporter!

The Kigz wern't in the A-league but they were in some Ozzy competition which was going at that stage. The Kingz changed to the Knights who were in the A League for two seasons. yeah I know it wasnt the A league at the time wasnt it something like the AFC or NFC? anyway we get the games here in England, I have always watched it because I'm usually up at silly times of the day and i recognise lots of the players from varous lower leagues in europe.

The Phoenix are doing relatively well in Wellington and Shane Smeltz is their best player. Therefore I'd see a NRL team in Wellington receiving far greater interest.

NZ Maori Team
1. Kevin Locke 2. Jordan Rapana 3. Shaun Kenny-Dowall 4. Wairangi Koopu 5. Jason Nightingale 6. Arana Taumata 7. Rangi Chase 8. Sam McKendry 9. Ben Ellis 10. Weller Hauraki 11. Bronson Harrison 12. Anthony Cherrington 13. Lee Te Maari
14. Jared Cahill 15. Joseph Cahill 16. Chance Bunce 17. James Tamou 18. Kevin Proctor
Interesting mix there and a lot of youth. Should be a fairly one sided game though as that All Golds squad is possibly stronger than the full kiwis side!
