Looks like the Russians have improved. How many from last years WC qualifiers were in the Lebanon team? 1 by my reckoning.

I think there is a lot of possitive news coming out of Russia lately. because they are a million miles ahead of "tier 3" like serbia, but a million miles behind "tier 2" like ireland, they are in a difficult place, your right there is some positive news coming out of russia but its certainly far from rosey

It will be interesting to see if this proposed european comp goes ahead next year, I think it should be Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Russia. They are sort of like France in a way I think, although France are in a great position to move forward they are still in between the top 3 and the the rest IMO. Perhaps seeking out internationals against atlantic or pacific oposition closer to their level should be the way to go. Games against USA would be fairly even I think, maybe they should try and establish a yearly game with the yanks. There is a good rivalry between the two countries aswell.

Yeah. Russia is too far ahead and too far behind. If they move up a tier Italy would go to Med right and Latvia to Shield then another team into Bowl right?
I think russia should have a shot at USA yearly (however I believe USA may be behind Russia) and yeah, the Pacific Nations, Fiji, Tonga the likes.

yeh i see what you mean, although from what Spider has said they may well be catching up on tier 2. I dont see it myself, and i dont see how spider or anyone else can suggest they are. Serbia have closed the gap on Russia. the difference from their Qualifier game two years agio and this recent game was about 10-15 points, russia have been hammered by Lebanon and Ireland in the last 12 months. It will be interesting to see if this proposed european comp goes ahead next year, I think it should be Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Russia. I agree, we would see for sure where teams are after the WC and all its qualifiers over the last few years They are sort of like France in a way I think, although France are in a great position to move forward they are still in between the top 3 and the the rest IMO. I think France are not much stronger than Ireland or Scotland IMO, we will see in a few weeks though where France really are. Perhaps seeking out internationals against atlantic or pacific oposition closer to their level should be the way to go. Games against USA would be fairly even I think, maybe they should try and establish a yearly game with the yanks. There is a good rivalry between the two countries aswell. Yeah maybe, it all comes down to money though, teams of Ameteurs have to do a lot of hard work to jet across the world, just look at the intensive fund raising that goes on in BARLA tours, its paid for by the players not the organisation

Well I hope this isn't the case but I dare say come next year Scotland and Ireland will look a lot different. But you are right, Scotland V France will be one of the games of the WC I think. Yeah maybe, it all comes down to money though, teams of Ameteurs have to do a lot of hard work to jet across the world, just look at the intensive fund raising that goes on in BARLA tours, its paid for by the players not the organisation Russia should be able to afford a trip to USA a year, but I suppose you have to add to that the cost of travelling to the UK if they are going to be promoted. I would like to see USA tour europe once a year but the $ might not be there. Ofcourse other teams should return the favour.

Again all this talk of tours... stuff the tours I say. They are a dinosour from times gone by. If we want proper credibility for the sport more teams need to get into more comps.
This means regioal games where teams are pitted against like teams and prove themselves over a 4 year cycle to get to the world cup through qualifiers.
It also means that teams don;t have to worry about every year or two years embarking on a massive tour somehwere that will send them broke... they can concentrate locally and as success comes then be able to get better money and sponsorship.
The tour AFAIK is just an excuse to get totally drunk for a period of time... in another country.
The most successful sport in the world does not have tours does it... they have regular comps that players and fans look forward to every year.
RL biggest issue is that we just stop start... cut paste... mix and turn things all the time that no one idea or thing has time to establish itslef with the fans. The ARL/RFL/RLIF policy is if it does not work in its forst game then cann it... sport is like the stockmarket you need to let things develop and invest and gather support over time... if after 10 years an idea still has not caught on then look to cann it, not after 10 minutes.

What do you propose countries like USA and South Africa do then? These are fairly developed RL countries with no real competition nearby. USA are much too strong for nearby countries like Canada and Jamaica. If the pacific/atlantic tournament goes ahead next year that will be good for USA but what of South Africa? I would liek to see them join the pacific/atlantic but it would be a big bill to pay every year.

Regional championships... an Atlantic cup. I would have USA, Morocco, South africa and Jamaica in it. The top two then qualify through to a 6 and 4 nations spread where the qualifiers from the European and Pacific championships also go through.

Continental comps. All those European ones, an American (USA, Canada, Jamaica, Argentina), Pacific, and Africa (South Africa, Moroco, Kenya). It would work.

The details of how you end up doing it aren't hugely important at the moment... but its the concept... play teams at your level and region to earn a shot at other teams and the big boys.

I see you posted a smiliar thing before me haha. Yeah you get the basic idea. But I think keeping it in the continents is good as well.
