Of course, it wasn't expected knowing that Italy doesn't have domestic competition, but little sneak on the Facebook (which I hate, but it worked the job) shown that the most of the Azzuri is England-based and that Friday is not the best term for Germans, I think, had to go on tour straight after their jobs and school days.

I am back!
Oh man what a crazy weekend... some things that go on tour stay on tour.... but F**k they are funny.
So I see the result has already been posted up by Spider. So a roundup of the weeks results.
Itlay 00 vs. 64 Barla on wednesday 11 June. This was a warm up for the italian team for the Euro shield.
Friday, 13th June started off pretty much like the superstition inplies, friday the 13th started out in controversy. The Barla vs Isle d'France (Paris based team) was a tough physical encounter. I was on the sidelines for this one taking photos, I have not heard bodies clash like that in a long long time... there basically was effort into physically trying to damage the opponents. Unfortunately this physicallity turned into 3 all in brawls, one in the 1st half just befor half time and then two huge all in errupted and the ref abandoned the game at the 60 min mark. I cannot say too much more on this as there may be an investigation comming from this as serious allegations are being made.
But the main event was of course the Euro shield opener. In from of about 200 people Italy and Germany put on what was a highly physical and entertaining game. The conditions were a bit damp and there were handling errors from both teams. Itlay;s quick back really proved to be the difference, several long range runs tired out the germans. Germany started slowly out of the blocks and with three early tries to one Itlay raced out to a 18-4 lead. However germany rallied and hit back with two tries near half time to make things interesting, unfortunately Jimmy Keinhorsts kicking game was not on par that day and the scores would have been closer than what is suggested.
In the second half Germany kept up the pace till about the 60 min mark where italys long bust down the side lines left germany basically biggered and from there they took a hold of the match. Germany kept in there trying, but towards the end silly penalties and dropped balles made life difficults for them, but they certailny showed heat and passion for the jersey as did the Italians.
Speacking to richard Lewis after the game, he said it was obvious that this match means alot to these teams and the BARLA officials that saw the match were so impressed with Germany that the next day informal talks started on BARLA doing a tour of germany in the near future. Tizziano Franchini was happy with the Italian win as its their first win on home soil.
So all up a great night. The after game party so to speak was at the Gasoline Bar with all teams mixing and having a great time. (I'll do a SF9's write up later).

Sounds like a good weekend. I was suprised when I heard Italy got up, still good result for them.
The only thing that I found disturbing was the BARLA coach saying the way they were treated was terible. Fair enough if it was but do you need to come out in the media and critise the hell out of the event? Surely they could have done an RU and just kept quiet.
Nice to see the new german kit in action and the italy kit looked great aswell.

The event was run pretty good considering its all voulenter. On my side it seemed to run pretty well with the odd hickup here and there. But you learn from there. I heard that BARLA had hotel issues but I was not involved on that side of things so cant comment.

Italy had 3 or 4 Players that are or have played at Pro Level in Australia or UK plus a couple of English based amateurs as well as decent union players. Germany fielded a couple of 17 year olds in Jimmy Keinhorst and Fabrice Fehlmann as well as 19 year old Nico Koch. We have another 17 year old playing in Australia where he is on a 12 month school exchange plus in the 9s team which featured 15 players who did not play Friday night again we had a couple of teenagers who impressed as 18 year old Micky Reinhold especially looking one for the future. Germany lost mainly due to the experience and fitness of the Italians, but its off the field germany keeps winning and we feel thats more important.

One other thing that I was impressed with, and this was for the Italian side... Thei captain Andrew Kaleopa plays in the Jim Beam Cup for Cabramatta... now the club allowed him in mid season to come over and play and he may be able to get the second trip in a few weeks for the Czech game.
I applaude Cabramatta for doing this.

Is that the same Andrew Kaleopa who played for Samoa in Federation Shield (the one who tackles Englishman on the figure)?

Hmmm bit hard to tell from that photo, but he did look like he had some sort of islander in him.
I'll ask him in Prague.

I did ask him... he holds an Itlaian passport through his mother... and hasn't played for Samoa since that england game.
As long as he sticks for them... I am not sure if I would want to badger him about it, he semms a nice guys. But I may try and ask what is throughs are on those things... just to see the mentality these players have and why.
