The second round of the LER "extra games" to be played on the weekend of 28/29 March are as below. Note the fixtures were determined on the basis of the league positions at the end of the first half or "aller" stage of the season, as previously agreed. No ;ocal authority has accepted to stage 3 games the same day. So the programme is split with 2 games at Lezignan, two at Carcassonne, ansd one at Carpentras. Entry is free and fans will be encouraged to make a charitable donation.
"Messieurs, Chers amis,
Samedi 28 mars 2009 à LEZIGNAN : 14h30 : UTC / CARPENTRAS 16h00 : LEZIGNAN / VILLENEUVE
Dimanche 29 mars 2009 à CARCASSONNE : 15h00 : PIA / LIMOUX 16h30 : CARCASSONNE / ST GAUDENS

hopefully FCL can turn workington over this weekend with this great result as motivation FCL should get workington easy no! Its a NL2 team... its not whitehaven last year which was just a rediculous day all round in terms of the weather... and Whitehaven were playing superb rugby that season.

Couple of the results form the make up games on the weekend.
Saint-Gaudens 28 vs Avignon 28
Villeneuve-sur-Lot 34 vs UTC 18
The draw is a surprise, I thought that Gaudens would take this. This effectively kills Gaudens chances of a play off spot.
The Villeneuve result is a real surprise.
Table: 01. Limoux 48 02. Pia 37 03. Villeneuve 37 04. Carcassonne 36 05. Lezignan 34 -------------------------- 06. UTC 33 07. Carpentras 33 08. Avignion 31 09. St Gaudens 23 10. Lyon 20

Some bad news despite the optimism... Just when I'm feeling very positive abiut the sport there is a set back. It looks possible that St Gaudens may not make the long trip to Lyon this weekend. Jean-alain Rives has not ordered a bus and asked the players to use their own transport. The players refused not having been paid recently. But then Rives is supposed to have been suspended by the Federation so should not technically be involved. Hope a solution is found as it was a rare chance for Lyon to show what they can do with a full team (minus the very promising Georges Lankri who has returned to RU after the problems at Lyon a couple of weeks ago). Ah you win some you lose some.

This from Cliff Spraklen about Lezignan Just speaking to Richard Gelis, one of the co-Chairmen of Lezignan. He tells me Lezignan will play their Lord Derby Cup BEFORE the Challenge Cup game at Oldham. Likely to be Thursday 2nd April. But a big demand on Lezignan. LDC Semi on the Thursday, Challenge Cup on the Sunday at Oldham. Suggests the LDC is the priority.

a shame for St gaudens and Lyon this year, on another forum i took issue with someone who suggested Toulouse would be just as well of in the LER.
Well nothing against LVR or ST Gaudens but you couldnt imagine anything as unprofessional as this to happen in the championships, thats why there better off in Championship

First day of the "Extra Games" yesterday. At Carpentras SO Avignon comfortably despatched Lyon-Villeurbanne. This was the last match this year for Avignon's prodigy, France Junior international, Tony Gigot, who is now on his way, with best wishes from all at SOA, to Harlequins Academy At just 18 Tony has great prospects in the game. At Carcassonne a stroll for Carcassonne against a St Gaudens suffering internal strife. Jean-Christophe Borlin thought earlier this week he would be playing at Whitehaven for Toulouse, played for St Gaudens. The other match was much closer, sounds a cracker, with a drop by Limoux's Nicolas Piccolo in the last minute securing a draw. The result guarantees Limoux top place in the table in advance of the play-offs. Today sees Carpentras take on a UTC side with lots of SL experience in the squad today, and Lezignan taking on Villeneuve. Both games at Lezignan. Results Saturday 28/03/09
Societe Olympique Avignonnaise X111 46 Lyon-Villeurbanne-Rhone X111 6 Association Sportive Carcassonnaise X111 66 Racing St Gaudens Commingeois X111 8 X111 Limouxin 22 Salanque Mediterranne Pia X111 22
Playing today at Lezignan
