Ahhhh September, when the swet sound of birds chirping arrives with the first crisp morning of the coming Autumn and first leaves start to fall. With the dew and frost covering the grass. The fresh air and afternoon rains and... ... a Frigin French club team going BUST AGAIN! Posted this on main forum but maybe it should be on here. Apologies for doubling up. "Bad news from France where the SASP of RC Albi X111 has gone into liquidation. The SASP is the limited company that runs the professional side of French Elite clubs. All must now have an SASP. This has been on the cards for some time as the club had not payed players all their dues by the end of last season, despite reaching the Lord Derby Cup final. Albi have links with Leeds Rhinos and clearly Leeds taking over Eric Anselme's contract was one way of helping Albi, whilst at the same time benefitting Leeds. Chairman of the SASP, Pascal Halford has battled almost alone to resolve the crisis, coming to the club late. The club has had several players on pro contracts without the means of supporting that. The "Association" or club for the amateur side is still intact and the priority for Albi is to see what can be salvaged in terms of teams and level of competition. A meeting takes place to look at what can be salvaged and to develop a way foward, for teams at Senior, Junior and Minimes levels. The club has been innovative in lots of ways, including marketing, but it clearly has not had the means to support its wage bill. Pascal Halford did look at ways of collaboration with the local RU club, also suffering. The area is steeped in RL, with several amateur clubs in the vicinity, and the Mairie is a relatively wealthy one which tends to support the RL club. It is likely to do so again but clearly not at a level that will support the financial outlays of the past year, which incidentally are not the fault of the current chairman, as the contracts were already in place before he assumed the reins. A sense of deja vu as this time last year Limoux was in serious financial difficulty and Carcassonne had been penalised for the debts and forbidden to sign any further players. The French Federation has yet to respond as it has just happened. Pascal Halford will be looking tomorrow at the meetingto see what can be done to allow the Association or Club to secure the future of the club and allow it to move foward. clearly there could be some offloading of those players on pro contracts. Fingers crossed for a very famous and historic club." Fekin what is it with french teams almost obsession to go broke in September?!

The poster is Cliff Spraklen... he put up on TRL.
He later on also posted that its only the professional financial arm that is broke, all french League teams require these to be run as a business. The Amateur arm of the club is doing well still.
But he goes on to say its not all doom and gloom and that other clubs in the last few years have been in the same or worse situation and bounced back and sees no reason why they can't either.

With Jean-Alain Rives Chair of the LER clubs confirming that there will be 10 clubs in the elite this coming season, following the departures of Toulouse to NL One and Albi RL to Elite 2, following the liquidation of the SASP of RC Albi, changes will be made to the elite fixture format. The play-offs will be a top 5 instead of a top 6. But there is to be an innovation along English lines. There will be two extra fixtures one to the "aller et retour" (home and away) schedule, with those games being played as part of a magic day or weekend at one site. This site will be Narbonne, Beziers or Toulouse final plans still to be confirmed. Out of the difficulties an innovative approach. Could be quite a weekend!

All I know is they are going to have 10 teams playing home and away, to make up for the lack of fixtures they are looking at doing a "magic weekend" kind of thing, where they take a round on the road to, possibly, and this is all heresay and rumour, one of either Toulouse, Paris, Bezieres, Perpignan or Narbonne, as you can imagine they are all getting thrown about on Mb's and suchlike but smart money is on Toulouse or Narbonne........ maybe
