OK so the 4N thread has got me thinking about us trying to sell our games to the wider public a bit more.
How's this for an idea, just throwing it out there.
St Helens or Wigan taking their derby game to Anfield. Give LFC and Wigan/Saints (whichever isnt hosting) cheap tickets, advertise it alot, it could be promoted as "the biggest derby in RL or something".
Anyone think it is something either club should look at down the line? It is quite similar to Stade Francias taking a game against Toulouse to Staide Francias, that was a sucess so why can;t we try it?

Firts Issue is would you get Anfield... its a soccer stadium and the owners will not wnat to have any other sport played on there.
Second, union just seems to be able to pull out the BS press and promoting... people for some reason are happy to buy it but when it comes to league they ridicule it.

Well that would be the biggest hurdle, getting the stadium, I don't imagine getting a big crowd would be too dificult when you consider atleast 30-40k Wigan and Saints fans would get to the game aswell as other neutral RL fans. Then you have LFC members withy cheaps tickets and some general observers and it should see the event as a sucess. They could always schedule it for the EPL offseason, don't see LFC having a major issue if it's offseason.

I dont think you would be able to get near Anfield, possibly Goodison Park, but thats a bit tired looking these days.
Not a bad idea though.

Why are these soccer types so prescious about their stadiums, SL runs through the soccer off season so if there was ever an excuse of "it would wreck our pitch" then we could play it when they're having a break. Anyway I think it would be worth a shot, what's the worst that could happen? they say no or ask for too much. Then we just resume as normal. I believe RL has been played at Anfield has it not? I think it was a WCC.

I think it was a WCC. When the internationals happen soccer season has already started. And I think the FA has a policy on how many non soccer events can be used on a pitch... and so many of them have concerts rather than other sports events. CoM is an example of this.

I wouldnt say there being precious, if a sublime pass through the defense is spoiled by a divot in the pitch then there will be questions asked, wether thats anything to do with RL or not it would be our fault. And secondly, they probably dont need the money or hassle involved with staging games outside the soccer season when they just open the doors on a saturday and are guaranteed 40-50k for the football, and as druzik says we play our tests in the english winter, wet and muddy pitches cut up do death are not good for football!

I think we're forgetting in this case we're not talking about a test but a SL game. EPL end not too long from now and starts again nearing the end of out season so that leaves the two clubs a good chunk of time when LFC won't be playing at all on the pitch. If they re-do the turf every year then try and get it as soon as possible before the old turf is torn up and then it should be that much of an issue.

Liverpool is a soccer city they have no interest in rugby - of either code. They used to have Liverpool City - who ultimately folded. The ru teams are now miniscule despite being historically quite good. Those people who do like rl can easily get to Knowsley Road if they want their fix. Neither Liverpool nor Everton would be interested in having rl in their stadia. Saints fans wouldn't want to travel that far to see a game!

players like Tony Gigot gaining experience with the quins in their new foreign exchange deal is great short term for the french national side. if it continues i think tolouse olympic will have to gain a super league licence which will enable two french sides to slowly build up high class talent that can make france a force. www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12198_5488473,00.html

As long as both those clubs have Australians playing in key positions then France wont build squat, they will just have what they have now, a squad full of Forwards and average squad players.

would the Celtic crusaders debacle be a great opportunity for Le Catalan dragons to pick up a player like josh hannay at a bargain price. they are very uniquely placed here,, just as they were with the Greg bird scenario. no club wants to build their team around bad boys but with UK border agencies severely toughening their visa restriction Le Catalan could pick up quite a few players.
