JAMIE LYON AND JASON KING CO-CAPTAINS OF MANLY SEA EAGLES Thursday, 18 February 2010
The Manly Sea Eagles today announced Jamie Lyon and Jason King as co captains for the 2010 premiership. Lyon will be the on field captain while King will handle off field leadership roles. Manly coach Des Hasler told his player group of his decision last night and will inform his team today. Both Lyon and King are delighted with their roles. “It is a real honour for me to lead such a great club - I have been here for three years and to be appointed on field captain after such a short time is a massive thrill. “I enjoy playing with the group of players we have and I am sure we will have a successful season, ” Lyon said. Jason King will be team spokesman at NRL and Player Association meetings as well as official events. He will also be an on field support for Jamie Lyon and will share duties at after match media conferences. A local junior from the Belrose Eagles, King says he is proud to be co-captain of the only senior club he has played for. “I want to be a one team player if I can. I went to school across the road from Brookvale Oval and it is the only club I care about. To be co captain with Killer is a real buzz,” King said. Hasler said the decision to go with co captains came from discussions with his senior playing group. “The role of captain in the NRL today is a big ask on one player – we are simply spreading the workload,” Hasler said. Manly CEO Graham Lowe said Lyon and King were respected leaders amongst the playing group and excellent citizens away from the football field. “They have the respect of their peers and that is essential in their roles,” Lowe said. Both Lyon and King will have the captaincy tag alongside their names in the game’s official program Big League. Should one player be out through injury the other will lead the side. Lyon has played 65 first grade games for the Sea Eagles and King-who started his grade career with the Northern Eagles in 2001 – has played 146 games.

But I think him not getting the gig was in part with Brett having to go to court. If you noticed last year his form sufferred a bit because of what happen. In some ways with Jason King getting it is good with him being a local junior. Played for Belrose Eagles when he was younger the same club as another former Manly captain Geoff Toovey

SEA EAGLES GO FREE TO AIR WEEKLY THROUGH NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH MAORI TELEVISION Friday, 26 February 2010
The Manly Sea Eagles plan to become New Zealand’s second favourite NRL club with the help of a new partnership with New Zealand’s national indigenous broadcaster Maori Television. In a unique partnership the popular public broadcaster will screen Sea Eagles matches on Monday nights from 9.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. using the delayed SKY TV feed. And in a massive boost to the Sea Eagles brand in New Zealand, the network plans to commission production of a special series of 13 half hour programs featuring the inner sanctum of the Sea Eagles which will be screened prior to the match replays on Monday nights. The announcement of the partnership between the Sea Eagles and Maori Television comes after a month of negotiations between ex Kiwi coach and new Manly CEO Graham Lowe and Maori Television CEO, Jim Mather. Mather joined Lowe in Sydney recently for talks with NRL CEO, David Gallop, who is fully supportive of the move. “Maori Television will always be fully supportive of the New Zealand Warriors but this direct association with the Manly Sea Eagles will revive a close bond that commenced in the 70’s and 80’s when many Kiwi players found their way to the Manly club. “This link will perhaps open up that association again-the Sea Eagles have two current Kiwi League internationals in their side in Steve Matai and the exciting young Kieran Foran. “We have no doubts the style of football Manly play will be attractive to our viewing audience,” Mr. Mather said. Manly CEO Graham Lowe said the Sea Eagles were thrilled to be able to showcase Rugby League on a weekly basis throughout New Zealand via Maori Television. “This association is wonderful for the game and has been put together with that in mind with outstanding and unselfish support from the NRL and Sky Television in New Zealand. They have entered the spirit of the venture with a refreshing attitude which can only benefit the code. “As a proud Kiwi I am well aware of what the extra exposure will do for the game and the benefits in the future for the Manly brand commercially in New Zealand. “We will do everything to ensure it is a successful partnership,” Mr. Lowe said. John Fellet, CEO of SKY TV said the agreement continues the long term working relationship with SKY and Maori Television. National Rugby League Chief Executive Mr David Gallop said that the move was a further sign of growing support for the Telstra Premiership. “The agreement by SKY Television to license its Manly matches to Maori Television is an innovative step that shows the diversity of the support that exists for Rugby League. “Maori Television has been a strong supporter of the game over many years and this is an important step for them and for Manly. “It also is a reminder of the strength of Rugby League audiences in New Zealand.” Some of the New Zealand players to have worn the maroon and white of Manly over the past 30 years include: Jock Butterfield, Adrian Shelford, James Leululai, Kylie Leuluai, Kevin Iro, Tony Iro, Joe Ropati, Matthew Ridge, Darrell Williams, Awen Guttenbeil, Mark Broadhurst, Craig Innes, Tasesa Lavea, Jeremy Smith, Matt Rua, Kieran Foran, Steve Matai and Jared Warea Hargreaves.

Hopefully this means they also set up an academy in the not to distant future so we don't miss out on the next Keiron Foran, Steve Matai.
Actually when I'm over for the Warriors game in a few weeks and meet Graham and the board I'm going to ask them that question

TV deal spurs Manly initiative to woo Kiwi hearts STEVE KILGALLON February 28, 2010
MANLY want to rebuild their Kiwi supporter base and the club's new chief executive, Graham Lowe, has pledged to take one home game a year to New Zealand from 2011.
Lowe hopes to take the Manly-Warriors match next year to Wellington or Hamilton, and tabled the idea to the Sea Eagles board last Wednesday night, just days after Maori TV completed a delayed-coverage rights deal with Sky to replay all Manly games this season on Monday nights.
Lowe said Manly also intended to beef up its New Zealand scouting network, and while he denied the club had made a bid for rising Warriors star Kevin Locke, he said: ''I'm sure there are plenty more Kevin Lockes around and we would like them to wear Manly shirts.''
New Zealand's Sunday Star-Times understands Maori TV's deal with Sky, from which Manly derive no commercial benefit, represents the broadcaster testing the ground for more extensive licence bids when the NRL television rights come up for renewal.
While Australian rights are not due for renegotiation until 2013, New Zealand rights come on the table a year earlier and could easily be split between broadcasters, as they are in Australia. Maori TV is showing its willingness by filming a 13-part behind-the-scenes documentary series at Manly this year.
''It's a historic moment in the club's history,'' Lowe said of the deal, which he had suggested to Maori TV chief executive Jim Mather.
Lowe said the deal would allow a significant membership drive in New Zealand and open up a new sponsorship market. Manly could become every Kiwi's ''second team''.
Most NRL clubs began big membership drives after the NRL offered a $50,000 bonus to the first to break the 10,000 mark.
''I think throughout the world people support teams from other countries, and membership is as much about gaining the heart as it is gaining bottoms on seats,'' Lowe said.
Manly were many Kiwi league fans' club of choice before the Warriors joined the competition in 1995, thanks to a significant New Zealand presence at Brookvale that included Lowe himself, Tony Iro, Matthew Ridge and Craig Innes. It was the first Australian club to move a home game across the Tasman, later followed by the Tigers, Eels and Bulldogs with mixed results.
Manly played a pre-season game against the Warriors in Auckland last night and return for a round-four game at Mt Smart
