THE Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles today announced the signing of current French international Julien Rinaldi.
Rinaldi will join a growing list of local and import players who will boost the fortunes of NRL affiliate the Manly Sea Eagles (pictured).
“This is a great signing for the club in so many ways and typifies the opportunity we have on offer at the club,” Sea Eagles CEO Brett Winkler said.
“Julien obviously fell in love with the coast when he trained here for the World Cup this year and his partner is Australian so there are obvious connections but Julien is still chasing an NRL berth and sees the Sunshine Coast as his best opportunity to get there.”
Rinaldi shares some history with the Manly club as their current CEO Grant Mayer was the CEO at French club Catalans in the UK Super League where he played.
After the initial launch into the UK Super League, Catalans has proved to be a second home for many Australian players.
“It is fantastic to be part of this new club and I see the great opportunities it offers to all players,” Rinaldi said.
“It is very similar to Catalans when it kicked off there and I think it is an equally sensational part of the world to live in. I am looking forward to my time here as a player and hopefully a long term resident.
“I fell in love with the Sunshine Coast when we trained here last year for the World Cup and always wanted to come back to live and play footy. Now it is a reality.”
Rinaldi will commence training tonight with the Caloundra RSL Sea Eagles in the lead up to their series of trials starting with Easts Tigers at Langlands Park on February 14, Norths Devils at Stockland Park on February 21 and culminating with the clash against the Balmain Tigers on February 28 as part of Footy Fest at Stockland Park.

Sunshine Coast Is quite wide-spread but I think they could have an NRL team sometime in coming years. On a side note I love the place.

Just incase you haven't heard Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles qualified for the Qld Cup Grand Final (added bonus the Grand Final is being played at there home ground ;D) on the weekend.
Also Manly's U20's won the minor premiership in that comp and are favourites to take the Premiership.
Manly NRL finished the season 5th going into the first week of the finals and are taking on there current nemisis the Storm. Not bad for a team that was missing there main strike weapon for a total of 22 weeks (4 weeks suspension, 18 weeks injured)

Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles have won the Qld Cup.
On a sadder note Glenn Hall's wife had a miscarrige so Glenn pulled out of last night's game. As a whole I think this effected Manly's performance last night.

well something must have affected them cos i think the sunshine coast eagles would have done a lot better job than the NRL squad did last night. melbourne were just brilliant. round stadiums look so much bigger than purpose built rectangular ones. a crowd of 20,150 was respectable. would have been a lot higher if wasnt for AFL next door. last years preliminary final at the same stadium got 33k. hope to better it this year.
back to sunshine coast eagles. do u know the score arh21980? dont suppose any crowd estimation?

Sunshine Coast SEA EAGLES 32 Tries: Shane Neumann 3, Trent Hodkinson, Tony Williams, Michael Chapman, Ryan Walker Goals: Trent Hodkinson 2
Defeated
Northern Pride 18 Tries: Rod Jensen, Tom Humble, Jamie Frizzo Goals: Tom Humble 3
Tony Williams won MotM (kind of funny when you think about it when many people have said that he's not good enough to play park football)
Not sure about the crowd though.

Unfortunately I wasnt able to go. Dan there is light for me as well it means we'll be able to put Foran and JWH back into the U20's and go a long way to winning that ;D

HUGE NEWS! Big Georgie Rose has been named in the kangaroos train on squad. This as a Manly supporter makes me so happy. If anyone has seen that footage of a game 2 years ago against the Storm will understand why.

Deserved a run in the PM's XIII over Nate Myles & his shenanigans earlier this year.
