Lezignan beat workington Town 18-6
This game at Dewent Park was played in awful conditions and full credit must go to the the groundstaff at Town for making the pitch even remotely playable. With Scottish born Internatonal Paddy Coupar receiving his World cup medal from Scotland assistant coach Dave Rotherham it was more than just the visitors with internationals on show. As the game kicked off it was, rather surprisingly, Lezignan who got the better of the opening fifteen minutes, despite the conditions. A missed Penalty goal and a forced goal line drop out meant Town defended three sets on their line and it was too much, Aurellien Cologni and James Wynne combined to put Big Ali Brown in from thrity meteres out, Wynne tagging the goal. Shortly after the opening try James Wynne and Town interchange Darren Robinson exchanged blows with FCL second row Phillipe Laurent needlessly adding his two penneth, he saw red, Wynne and robinson both took ten minutes. However even with a man down Towns forwards struggled to make any impact on the game, Chris Beattie, Adel Fellous and the rest of the FCL pack had too much muscle even with 11 men and very much of the Rugby on show was down the middle stuff as conditions dictated, but to their credit both sides tried to play some rugby, Town with Forber , Roper and King and for FCL Wynne, Cologni and the impressive Jarad Taylor who managed to squeeze in wide right on the blind side for his first try. With Wynne off the field Cologni potted the extras. Less than 10 minutes later a Town error gifted Lezignan field position inside the 30 and from the resulting set Wynne, Cedric Bringuier and Aurellian Bourell sent Jarred Taylor in for his second. Wynne this time failing to add the extras. The second half was a dour affair as the weather worsened with the pitch becoming a quagmire. Town had the better of the opening but failed to execute either with ball in hand or with the boot, both sides tired and began to make more errors and more penalties were blown. James Wynne slotting one over for FCL in front the posts and a long touch finder setting Towns Jarred Stack up for a consolation score. MOM: James Wynne and Jared Taylor were always around for Lezignan popping up in the right places and orchestrating things in attack, but my man of the match for his 60 minutes of toil in attack and defence, without which, Wynne et al would have struggled, is Chris Beattie.

Carnegie Challenge Cup draw made Monday 9th March 09
Carnegie Challenge Cup holders St Helens have been paired with engage Super League champions Leeds Rhinos in the outstanding tie of the fourth round.
Saints, who are aiming for a fourth successive victory, will travel to Headingley in a repeat of the 2007 and 2008 Grand Finals, one of five all-Super League clashes in the last 32.
Leeds coach Brian McClennan said: “It doesn’t get much tougher than that. We might as well get it on in the early rounds.
“It’s going to be a tough one and we’ll look forward to it. I’m sure they’ll be pretty excited about this too.”
In the other all-Super League ties, Hull FC, the 2005 winners, have been drawn at home to Salford City Reds, Huddersfield Giants go to Harlequins RL and Hull KR are at home to newcomers Celtic Crusaders, who visit Craven Park in a dress rehearsal next Sunday.
Bradford Bulls also face a dummy run when they take on the Catalans Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday, March 21.
The other French survivors, Lezignan, face a trip to Championship One club Oldham while Wath Brow Hornets, the only amateur team certain to be in the fourth round, have been handed a trip to Featherstone.
The draw for the fourth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup is:
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats v Leigh. Halifax v Widnes Vikings. Oldham v Lezignan. Leeds Rhinos v St Helens Keighley v Castleford Tigers. Catalans Dragons v Bradford Bulls. Leigh 82-6 Lokomotiv Moscow Havent done a match report for this one, didnt seem much point as Leigh were 12 up before I sat down! I may as well give it a go Well the trip upto Leigh was a good one. So as always I looooove staying in manchester, what a town. I managed to see on saturday night a very bizzare interpretation of McBeth... one that certainly shocked and riocked and made you come out of there doing a double take that you had seen some scenes... so I suppose it was good in that sense. Sunday the trip out on the bus was great, I managed to get the only bus that was full of RL supporters in Manch I think and so we were all chatting and singing in the bus. Then had a quiet one at the Leigh Centurions Pub... like The one in Hudds an all "Rugby" pub... no matter what I will never get used to calling Rugby league just rugby in Nth England... but it is a beautiful thing. Impressions of the sports village: Well I had been there before at the Leigh east grounds for the SA game so knew my way round a bit, but fiorst time in the main stadium, and what a nice stadium it is. Great view of the ground, very new and plush, quite spacious for people to get around in... but what is it with ya brits and the old crappy turnstiles to get in... even old trafford has them! get some modern shite in ther guys! Game started off in predicatable fasison with leigh going in under a minute and as marv said he got there about 5 mins after kick off and it was 12 zip already. The flood gayes opened and it wasnt for a lack of Loko trying but you could see where they were lacking... I'll elaboarte later... yeah so it was 82-6 run away, a better showing by Leigh who last time they played moskow only put 70 past em. As For Loko... well the potential is there. Marv and I agreed that where these guys are lacking is in the halves. They need a a good scrum half and stand off to get their back end options going. Moscow were actually pretty good when it came to the the fort 3/4 tackles to get up the field, but they just had no clue when within the 20m of the line and needing direction. I would love to see the odd ESL oe NRL player head over there and just show them a think or two, it would improve them 1000% maybe still not beat a team like leigh... but at leats have a more respectable score. They also had some biiiiiig units. Their #2 was MASIVE! Let alone the Physio... I think he drew the bigger cheer... or was that jeeer from the crowd, he was 3 times the size of any player on the field... lol... Anyway It was a very good day out, lots of fun. marv good seeing you again, not sure when we will get to meet up again as I dont know if I'll be in Europe any more... maybe one day we shall see you in Aus with the missus and kids and I can show you round our great grounds. I'll get my sneacky photos up later.

Just on Loko it realy is a disapointing result though not at all suprising. Something needs to be done right now about the state of the game in Russia. Khlebanon needs to let go of his pride and get somebody decent to coach the side, a few "marquee players" if that's possible for them with Visas etc. and look to get more regular competition against better oposition like LER or Championship sides. Not sure how this could be done but I would suggest a mid-season euro club challenge involving 8 or so clubs, sort of like the Lord Derby and NRC but incorpaorating more euro clubs and preferably not a knockout. Maybe go with something like this: Pool A: Championship 1 LER 2 Championship 3 RC 1 Pool B: Championship 2 LER 1 LER 3 Euro Qualifyer - have teams from the likes of Serbia, Ukraine, Italy etc play for this spot. Don't know if that work and it could do with some tweaking but I think it's a good idea. So won't happen

Jim you are right, something needs to be done.
Look again, marve and I were talking about this at half time. Loko put 70 past some of the russian teams and Leigh put 70 past them, that certainly put things into perspective,
But again its the last play options that are important, the talent is there, no doubt about it. Roman was a standout as was the #13 (dont remember the names, but have team lists at home). Roman played at hooker where in the NRL they sometimes come in as the play makers, but he didnt, the 6-7 combo just was not there, they were cluless at the 5/6 tackle options. Loko always made great ground in their fisrt 4 tackles, they were withing Leighs 20 m line soooo much and should have at least scores another 2-3 times, but just had no options.
For mine, I am sure Loko have the financial means to do this, I would look to recruit marquee players in three positions, #6 & 7 and #1. Thei full back was also a bit useless when it cam to knowing how to defend on the bust... you need someoen on the back that can direct the wins and centers as well in defence let alone having the halfs to work in attack.
Withe experienced players in those 5 important positions, #1, 6, 7, 9 and 13 (or there abouts) I think you have players that can lead and rally the team to much better results.
Your issue is that, I cant see any NRL, ESL, NSWC, QLDC, Ch, Ch1, LER 1&2 players wanting to go to russia and play... I think there is a stigma about russia still and people think its got the old commie ways about it... but I would love to see it happen one day... it would be phenominal... If I could ever get the ear of a player and just suggest it to them would be great.

Maybe the first thing to do is have a Euro club cup or something with the Rusians, Serbs, Lebanese. They dont play that much when you think about it and say a 6-8 team comp from them may be a better way to find the best club side, then have the winners of that get invited to the challenge cup the next year.
