Hence this is my argument about getting rod of SoO or devaluing it. The WC for all its 'success' I fear will be wasted as we are serverley missing bthe boat with internationals now. The 4N and the euro and pacific cups are doing sweet FA to promote the international scene. There is no incentive at the moment for players to stick with the other nations, and ther definitively is no incentive for emerging nations to aspire to greatness. There is still this glass ceiling and no one is willing to smash it. Here are my predictions for the next 2 4N. 2009 - Australia, England, France, New Zealand 2010 - Australia, England, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea 2011 - Australia, England, New Zealand, France 2012 you have yours which will also fuck any other country wanting players for internationals. Running an annual Samoa vs Tonga Test series alongside State of Origin might prevent some Islanders from pledging their allegiance to NSW and QLD. The game's popularity will increase if there is an annual Test series between Tonga and Samoa. The intensity of the rivalry between the two nations will allow the series to generate interest from neutral supporters. Persons who'd never otherwise watch rugby league would tune in just to see the Tongans and Samoans battle it out on the field.

Well PNG seem to be playing some games. They have recently done another Samoa game.
Was just thinking if there could be a Polynesian vs melanesia game, so PNG/Fiji vs. Tonga/Samoa.
Something needs to be done to promote the sport.

I'd love to know what players think about the whole SoO thing and the ones that cant play in it.

Setting up an annual grudge series between Tonga and Samoa might entice the best Polynesian players to shun State of Origin. The incentive to play for Tonga and Samoa -- as opposed to Queensland and NSW -- could be increased by using the series as a trial for selection in a Polynesian XIII that'll play end-of-year Test matches against Australia, New Zealand and/or England. A Polynesian might view the prospect of gaining selection in a Polynesian XIII as a victory over his rival tribe. For example, a Tongan might gain a great deal of pride from gaining selection [in the Polynesian XIII] at the expense of a Samoan player. The latter might feel a great deal of bitterness and regret. Both players would look to the succeeding year's grudge series as a means of reinforcing/rectifying their case for selection in the Polynesian XIII.
