I dont know Jim, in some ways PNG is a special case, they love thier RL like no other country and are over the moon when the Aussies send an "A" side over for a one off game, as I say the country has been and continues to be shafted because of its undying love of the game. Yeh PNG are nuts, saw some footage yesterday on the news, when the Australian bus was driving in there was a mad dash to get up close and bang on the windows. Scotland or Ireland, the general interset in the sport is not that high, for example the Scotland v Wales WCQ only attracted about 900-1,100 fans, this is a winner takes all WCQ so I dont see England A pulling the fans in at all. Regualr competitions against the Celtic nations is whats needed, eventually Wales will become too good, hopefully! Maybe the winners of a comp between Ire,Sco,Wal,Rus could play off for a game against England? Hard to tell I suppose, I still think any PM or "A" sides should be touring sides only, I would much rather see England "A" V Ireland in Dublin get 2,000 then I would the same game get 3,000 in Hull. England gets hundreds of Top Level RL games a year but Ireland and Scotland don't. I like the idea of the winner of the comp getting a game against England. Or maybe even get a game against 3rd in the 4 nations and 2nd get a game against 4th. Both games played on the same weekend as the final in Wales, Ireland, Scotland or Russia (whoever the winner and runner up may be). I hope all 4 nations teams play warm-ups next year aswell. As for Russia I dont know what sort of crowds you could expect or the Interest the England RL team could drum up, but we have sent an A side over there before if memory serves me correctly in the old Euro cup, we won about 80-0 but i couldnt tell you anything about the crowd. I think in England you could bank on a couple of thousand tuning up at those games you mentioned and I dont see us eclipsing that in the other counties you mentioned exept, perhaps, Russia, but more because Im reserving judgement rather than being expectant. For the game against Lebanon they were expecting a "big crowd" and I'm not sure what that would be, not sure what they got for the game either. If I had to guess I would say 5000 is a big crowd in Russia and if they got somewhere around there it would be great. Russia seems the hardest of all places to get info out of. I honestly think a game involving SL quality players could attract 5000-10,000 people.

I think it would be great If Aus or NZ played a "tour game" if you like against Irleand, Scotland or Wales, whilst they were playing in the Tri nations I honestly think a game involving SL quality players could attract 5000-10,000 people. I could see 5k but it all depends on how we push it as a lot of Russians will have never heard of league, those that have would probably realise that Russia will get tonked by SL standard players.

AUs and NZ used to play tour games against Scotland and Wales in the old days of tours... I am glad that they at least still do that with france.
Its amazing how IRL contracted in the last 10 years.

Australia and NZ should be having "tour games" when they're over there. Wales, Ireland and Scotland are your prime candidates or maybe Russia if they fell like putting 70+ on a team.
I have heard of people seeing advertisments in magazines and papers about expressing interest in the Kangaroos "European Tour" for next year. Now that could just mean England and France but hopefully it could spell that they are intending a game against another european country.

Yep, just like the old French and GB tours took in Fremantle, Perth, WA, Adelaide, SA, NT, Melbourne and VIC teams. Not to mention Newcastle rep, Monaro/Canberra and Mt Isa and Toowooba teams.
Ahhhh the good old days.

I wouldnt have thought so myself

It was still a test but these teams were called the Emus rather than Kangaroos. Have seen an interview where Brett Kenney talked about them on the 82 tour. I'm think Wales V Australia could get 10k in Bridgend or Cardiff. Well Bridgened doe not hold that much! but maybe 8,000 there and Cardiff not sure which ground they would use, maybe one of the smaller Union ones, could get 10,000 there I'd say.
