KF
Some valid pointys in your post. I guess the important things is to see weather the sucess and the added experience of Super league trickles down to the Elite and buildas up there.
Watcjing Lezignan against whitehaven on the weekend, I can't say I was overly inpressed (with either team) with what I saw. OK granted they dodn't have all their top playeer in but there were some fundamental basics like holding onto the ball that were not being adhered to.
I am quite enthusiastic of the expansion outside the heartland, but not just any random expansion it needs to be smart as well. The France v England test in Toulouse will be important in them getting a liscence to see if the support is there... By having toulouse will it trickle down into the lower leagues? Again its a very inconclusive observation.
But when people talk of expansion what do they really mean? Expansion of the competion and the number of teams or expansion of where the game is played? Or Both? I personally do not see what is wrong with an expansion of teams from the heartand, can only be good. Having salford in there gives you a Manchester team and widnes gives you a Liverpool/mersseyside Derby with St's. Now that can't be a bad thing now. Look at the NRL expansion... it was a RL heartland! And the future RL expansion teams that are touted also are RL heartland (NZ, Cen Coast, SunCoast, WA(yes they are heartland in my eyes)).
I think the franchising will end up like this. The current 12 ESL teams with either Widnes/Salford in one spot and Celtic/Toulouse in the other.

Hmmm. I think they will throw Celtic and Toulouse in there. I would like to see Toulouse but not Celtic. Don't think they are ready. We need an Elite Europe Club Comp, teams from say Scotland, Ireland, Wales, 2 from England, 2 from France and 1 from Italy and another 1 from Serbia. If only I had the money to throw at that idea...

I personally think the same as druzik, 1 english club and CC or Toulouse. I wouldn't discount Leigh either, they're getting a good new stadium built from what i hear. My tip Salford and Toulouse but it really is hard to pick, good luck RFL!

I'm going to disagree on the Toulouse point, especially as Bradford made 'light' work of them on Saturday. Only 1 game I know however but it doesn't set a great precedent. Celtic are not ready and should be considered in 2012. They are forever improving and fair play to the lads down in Bridgend but I feel Salford and Widnes should join the 2 SL clubs currently in the competition.

Your European competition would be great. Unfortuanetly it can only be added to the very long list of other ideas which need more backing. Toulouse and Celtic are funny ones. Some people say that they deserve as go in the Superleague others a dead against them. Now I don't know what to think.

Look, it is damn confusing. I just hope what ever teams do get in it will be through a fair process and not one that is there just to pander to the whims of a minority.
If toulouse and CC can prove that they deserve a spot above say widnes then sp be it... but if not then they should not get a spot. Nothing wrong with an expansion in the heartlands... the NRL have proven that with the Titans, they are top of the league now.

I'm glad I've posted this on here. I consider this small forum to be the most knowledgable of all I've visited and would like to thank everyone for their thoughts. I've posted this on numerous sites to try to publicise the site and this site has given me the best feedback. Glad you enjoyed the article. More of the same to come.

Evo, true that Bradford made light work of them, but look at the whole picture, if they get a franchise then they have the 1.2 million to spend on a squad that can rival the other ESL teams, they will have good stadia facilities (I think) and they will be able to go full time professional. I think you will find many antipodean come in again to bolster the numbers till more french players come up... BUT What will this do to the local competition. Now like I said previously I am for expansion in non heartland, but I am for expansion in heratland. I just worry that if toulouse come in the detrimental effects wont be felt in ESL, or NL but at the Elite league. I am hoping that serbia will soon come onto the Schengen waiting list which will open up 2 year opportunities for their players to sign with french clubs rather than the current 9 weeks max.

WILL PEOPLE PLEASE LISTEN!!!THE 10 POINT SYSTEM WILL NOT BE USED FOR THE AWARDING OF 2009 FRANCHISES Then what will it be used for? I understood that it would be used as a guide but it could be ignored and other things could be considered.
