Apparently less than 2000 tickets have been sold so far. I think it was a poor choice to have a test played in a smaller city, NZ don't get too many home games, & although it is a nice gesture to spread the game around, they need to get as many fans as possible to home games. One-off tests need to be played in either Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch.

NZ 40-24 Tonga
Very, very, very good result for Tonga and International Rugby League in general. It was 24 all with about 10 to go I believe.

NZ looked the goods in the first half, although they let in a couple of soft-ish tries & the video ref robbed the Tongans of another. Tonga then dominated for the first 15 minutes of the second half, running in three tries while NZ hardly touched the ball. It was 24 all with 23 minutes remaining before NZ took over again. Lauaki, Mateo, & Uaisele were the pick of the Tongans. Ended up being a crowd of 8000. & just noticed on the news that Moimoi joined the Tongan huddle at the end of the game This guys heart surely belongs with the Tongans.

8000 isnt a bad crowd. rotorua international stadium holds 35,000 with 12,000 seats. unfortunately i wasnt able to see the game. was the atmosphere good beez? wow , that does say something of where moimoi's allegences lie. look , im not going to question the guys integrety or anything like that because he clearly ahs a hell of a lot. i can understand the reasons why. its better for his career to represent NZ, he gets to go to England and France, play against quality opposition in high profile games that will probably bring him fame in England (perhaps somewhat becaseu of his name)

I didn't actually go to the game & don't know too much about the ground in Rotorua but on tv the main stand looked pretty full, it was raining quite steadily so I'm guessing the uncovered parts at the ends of the ground were empty. I was criticising having the game played outside one of the main centres but I guess it went well. I think they got a bigger crowd for Wednesday's match in the rain than they got last year on a sunny Saturday in Auckland.

They certainly haven't capitalised on the Kiwis world cup win. I didn't return to NZ after the world cup until July so I'm not too sure on the interest it generated over here but surely there hasn't been a better time in NZ for league to attract fans.
The All Blacks failed, yet again, at the RWC in 2007, the Kiwis won the RLWC08, the Warriors struggled this year but the NRL produced a lot of excitement & while union fans faced the uncertainty of where the union NPC was headed in 2010.
But all New Zealand gets is one home game, & it's a warm-up game. Looks like they've missed out because all the attention is going to be on the RWC2011 in New Zealand by the time the Kiwis next play at home.

Tonga went well, but there are so many reasons in that VT showing why Tonga will not beat one of the big 3 anytime soon.

The highlights are not my doing, I just found them on Youtube (Haka's are my niche).
It was great for international league but I do feel Tonga could not play much better whereas NZ have a lot of improvement in them. Still, good game to watch & it will be very interesting to see how the Pacific Cup winner goes in three consecutive matches against the big three.
