Why did Halifax and Whitehaven bid this time? Just to try and get some local support up for the bid etc. etc. Whitehaven didn't! They were in NL1 but made zero bid... remember no Cumbrian clubs have made any SL bids, they are not gig enough. Halifx made a bid to see where they were and what they need to improve on... they states this from the start. Oops I meant Featherstone.

Well Cliff knows a hell of alot more about French RL and Toulouse's situation then I dare say anyone on here. Theres no doubt about that for me. I think it could well happen. I dont see why it should myself. I was under the impression that it was the RFL's decision to exclude them from the NRC, not theirs, I may be wrong. No, im almost certain it was their own choice, but would happily stand corrected. I didn't say get into SL I said bid, It would be nice to see another French team from a bug city getting pro-active and setting some goals even though they are a LONG weay away from SL. Even if those goals sent the club to the wall? we have seen over the lst few years its been difficult for Lyon to even compete in LER never mind find the cash to fund a bid for SL.

Same reason, they want to be in SL and are seeing what they can do to improve their bid in the future, Halifax and Featherstone had no chance this time round. Featherstone is a great club with some passionate support, but the town is only home to about 8k people, this would never sustain a franchise, but it wont keep the people of Featherstone down, they belive that their club has as good a chance as any of getting into SL.

Also Halifax are a former SL club no? Look, the point is, they are a few steps behind SL but it could be attainable in the next 10 years. Not for Lyon. They have a lot of work to do just to get up to standard for the National Leagues (10 years easily). By 2011 Lyon won't even be close enough to have to see where they have to improve. That's if they last that long and don't fold because they have no money. Lyon and Halifax are two entirely different cases. If Lyon made a bid next time I would laugh. OK so I said I would like to see them make a bid, I never envisioned them as being a realistic chance any time soon. Let's leave it at that. Toulouse should be the next French club into SL and after that who knows? There may not be another pro french club for 20 years, there could be another making a bid for 2015 we don't know. If Stade Francias act on the idea of having a RL team they could be bidding? If Toulouse area sucess like Catalans it would create alot more media coverage and interest in France.

I'll give you that one. Just a word of warning. Research before you say something your not sure on. Otherwise we'll all put you in the town square and throw stones.

sebastien payans has left UTC to join Toulouse, good young player who was on the fringes of the Dragons squad at one point.

It seems that, rather predictably, that big fish in a small pond Maxime Greseque is staying at Pia next year.
