They have a good following of league there already. I think itd sell out both days easily. You would get plenty of East Coasters making the trip over too. lol, thats exactly what I said in my post just before!. Yes I dont see the sense in holding it in areas that are already rugby league heartlands. At the time last year the clowns on the footy show suggested it, there were concerns over crowd numbers in some NSW teams, like Cronulla who are said to be doing it extremely tough at the moment. They were looking at the idea as being a magic solution to helping some of these struggling teams out.

Cronull have had a couple bad years and the crowds have gone down, but I rememeber the days only several years ago where they were averaging 13-15k and teams like wests and souths were down to about 8. these things are all cyclical... also have you ever been to Shark "Moria" Park on a saturday night at 7:30 in the middle of winter... not surprised the hobbitses wont come out... its a pretty unforgiving place to sit and watch footy. Sunday afternoons are the best time for shark park footy, do that and the crowds will increase... also the ball spectacle will get bettre, less messy plays I'd suspect. Cronulla according to some, have been facing financial oblivion for 40 years now, yet they are still there, they own $$ millions worth of real estste, OWN THEIR own ground, and at least have some integrity on the way they handle their players... They recently gopt a $9million council approval for developing the land around the ground which should help bring in $$. All we need now is a premiership or 10.

Yeah im agreeing with you,
If they do bring out something simliar to the magic events down here, I truly hope it doesnt go to Brisbane or NSW. It needs to go somewhere new.
Thats great about the 9 mill from the council. I have heard alot about the land developments theyre trying to get off the ground, and one of the last things id heard was that they were having trouble getting it through council.
I do hope more fans get out to their games. I know it would be freezing cold at nights in winter, but that shouldnt really stop thousands coming out. Melbourne gets strong support at an appauling facility all season, and its even colder. I find the NSW crowds to be a tad fickle though. When their team is winning they get very strong support, but when they arent they are not so willing it seems.
I also remember when Cronulla were one of the best supported teams in the League. I hope they return to those days soon.

There is no point about doing it in QLD or NSW we know they are heratlands... maybe the occasional one there, but in general it should be on the road. Really, I thought it got through council... well that the way I understood it. But basically what they want is a sports resort based around the stadium. so hotels appartments and business blocks as well as better sports facilites like a swimming pool in the one spot. You also have the gold course across the road. Yes Its a very unforgiving place in winter... I made the treck hundreds of times standing on the david peachy beer hill you cop the full effects of the weather... but there are 9-10k loyal supporters there week in and out, which really when you look at the core support is better than many clubs. As you say many NSW fans are fair weather suppoeters, if you look at other teams that do badly they get less core crowds turning up. teh other thing people dont realise with cronulla is that being a sharks fan is not about just about turning up to games, they really do live and breath the team down there, every corner in that area has some sort of Cronulla thing, people with flags in their yards, businesses with links to the team etc... if you live in the shire you are a cronulla fan... I would hazzard a guess it has a descent membvership rate as well... Only souths and Parramatta I think would be like this and their areas. Also remember the Cronulla demographis is very working class so the financial crisis will hit them a bit more than other areas. This was only 5 years ago, I think they averaged 15k in 2002-03 seasons when they were doing extremely well aming the semis both years and hammering sts consistently.
