I remember being to 20k+ crowds for these 5 years ago, but they were day games, seriously the NRL have been so shit in terms of the games they give... to help cronulla out they should be giving as many sunday games as possible, that will bring the corwds in more and the footy is much better which should help cronulla as well and help the fickle fans. Yes as a sharks fan I will admit we have the most fickle, but the 9k loyal ones are ubber loyal as well, If I had the means and money I would have been to every one of their home games this year... prob is I am in Germany... sigh...

re to that sharks sex scandal that has been all over every headline for the past week or two here.
the problem is every club is requesting sunday games, especially the knights who have recieved them. im guessing the sharks will get pretty much every game from round 19 (or whenever the latest schedule ends) onwards as a sunday game

You should be able to give all teams good slots on a saturday or sunday through the season with that. Ch 9 just needs to be sparteer with their Suer league showing. They shouls also start to televise a game or two of the NSW cup and QLD cup games.

haha nice 2am, im impressed.
the news of the day yesterday was that the nrl is looking at having a 12pm game on sundays due to the demand from fans for daytime football. i agree with every time slot you said except for the saturday 2:30 game. i agree with the nrl when they say they dont like the idea of a early saturday arfternoon game because its prime retail trading hours and things like junior football take place at that time.
i remember watching on ABC2 at about 11pm last year QLD cup games. i dont think they have them anymore. they also televised the west australian australian football rules (might have been south australia, cant remember) channel 9 doesnt take much of a risk with their ratings. in melbourne they refuse to televise friday night NRL games if theres an AFL game on channel 7. i think the NRL needs to put a clause in the next TV deal relating to games televised into other states. it very important to the growth of the game in Australia

No one in these potential areas want reloacted, bankrupt clubs from Sydney. If they die they die, that's the end, fuck saving them, there's a club right next door ready to take over. Only clubs you definitely want to keep are Manly, Penrith and St.George-Illawarra. Everywhere else is pretty much covered. Fuck it, they're going under okay, Sharks are dead, they've never been successful anyway. Ryan, the sharks have survived worse times than this current one... they will survive this. If not, as long as its under their own guise... but remember that its not all about money... its what the clubs cover in terms of other sports and cimmunity stuff. The sharks are very active in the community as well. They've survived worse times, but again, it wasn't the same situation as the NRL now. We are all looking for relocation, or nationwide expansion, and this will just all contribute to Cronulla's demise.

Not true at all ryan, the last 2 Cronulla crisies were in the Early 90's on thge back of the games expansion to Brisbane, Newcastle, NZ and Gold Coast. The club WAS broke, the only asset they had was the Stadium, that when Peter Gow, Elle McPhersons dad stepped in and pumped a crap load of his own money into the club to save it, brought in the likes of JG, beatson and eventually Johnny Lang in to bring the results in. Actually when Gow was kicked out of the club in 2001 i think for that halarious incident... thats when the current money wopes started, he went and the clubs biggest financier went as well... he probably was the original Russel Crow. The previuous time to that was in 1982/83 where Cronulla, Wests and Nerwtown had gone broke trying to Keep up with Manly and Easts spending sprees in the 70's. The teams had spenat upto 3 million on players back then, which was an absolute fortune, trying to buy premierships, but with that failure went bust. Newtown and Wests were kicked out, wests went to the industrial relations court like southe to be re-instated and won, Newtown didnt even have money to do that. Cronulla players too 1/2 pay cuts and did voulunteer work, only a decent sason in 84 and 85 saved the sharks and the advent of that gem p[layer ET which galvanised the shire saved them But again that was all on the back of the expansion of the game withe the Illawarra steelers and canberra raiders coming into the NSWRL in 1983. So No Ryan, the situation now is no different to previous, just a different numbered year thats all... I remember the years well... frigin goes to show my age hey.

Got chatting with my folks on the phone... my dad was at his humourous best last night. 12pm on a sunday.... figgin hell, didnt see that one comming... I dont get it Fans say 2:30 - 3pm for 90 years it was OK the best like that, and now they just want to fuck around with it... bloody News. OK, I take your point on the 2:30, I have gotten used to German saturday trading hours, done and dusted by 12pm... lol. OK what saturday times would you suggest then? 5:30 and 2x 7:30 slots or 2x 5:30 and a 7:30 slot? I thought QLD cup is still shown on the ABC and live or something, or at least a 1 hour delayed telecast. Its the NSW cup that needs to be televised. I know that the old JBC had fox televising it as well on Tuesday nights, I remember watching a Newtown game I had been at and seeing myself buying a beer and burger when they panned the crowd.... I got a good reception from the pub when we saw this. ;D Whats this I hear that the NRL is looking at $1 billion TV deal next time round, I do hope this is the case.

Yes, but we weren't even in the mentality we are in now. The fact is, the media is pushing for Cronulla's demise, and the media controls the game. They are pushing for expansion, and at the expense of Sydney teams. Which is why Cronulla are now feeling the pressure. I know, you're a Cronulla fan, so you're neve rgoing to agree haha. Just my opinion. They're going to go because the game is a media thing, a money thing and such is the fact that if you can't be stable, than you're going to go. I dunno what i'm even saying anymore but... or it's relevance.

im not sure about what times id have the footy on saturday afternoons. 530pm has proven to be a graveyard game, totally unsuccesful. doesnt suit the daytime lovers, doesnt suit the night game lovers. i would trial a 4pm saturday afternoon game.
as for the cronulla sharks , im gonna have to side with ryan on this issue genreally speaking. i think the fact that theyve had to be propped up so many times tells me that calling them a viable club with a future is too big a call. natural selection needs to take its place so to speak. the $1 billion talk is to do with a great article written by roy masters in the herald on sunday. if the nrl get that then the possibilites are endless....

Thats just it, everyone complains that the media has too much influence and yet everyone is happy to go and jump on the bandwaggon.
If your team was staring down the Barrel you would be supporting them as well... look at it from my shoes, 22 years I have been supporting that club... I'll be damned If I'll see them go down the gurgler... the media can go fuck em selves.
If your truly RL fans... you dont let teams die in this way... you should be sticking up for the sharks not pushing the knife even further.
I marched for souths when they were kicked out, I went to all their chaity games when they were kicked out.
I went and supported Newtwon when the cam back in... because that what you should do as a RL fan.
What is happening now is no different to what news did to souths and wests and Illawarra and Nths, they just disguised it another way... it stinks... if your not careful in the future your clubs could go the same way.

If manl or Sts were staring down the barrel, I would go and march with them... even though I hate them.
They are traditionalk rival teams, its that rivalry and 'hatred' that keeps the game alive.
Look at the local derby, 20k! It was more than what the Dragon v Doggie got and they touted that as the 'biggest game'.
The derbies draw massive crowds and are the life blood of our sport, its the tribalism and feuds that drive us... not some rubbish concosted in the smoke filled back rooms of Packers and murdochs garrage.

It's not ideal, but the NRL is a business. The media is where the money is to be made. The real test for the Sharkies is against Saints. If it [the crowd] fails, they fail.
