Yeah, I was surprised by that too Marv...I was actually thinking that I may come up for that weekend if they were playing... have to hold out for the March round then I suppose... hopefullw we do get two Russian teams this year.
Question for Spider:
Is there any truth to the rumour about having the Russian and Serbain teams play off for a places in the CC?

OK... who is it this year? Lezignan, PIA, UTC, Limoux?? It will be Lezignan, Pia and Carcasonne, provided the Elite entrants dont lose another spot as they did when Catalans entered. I have never seen Carcassonne so I would be up for that, I hope I can get ASC's game on Saturday and Lokos game for the Sunday!! Is toulouse playing CC or LD Toulouse are in the Challenge cup, I dont think they are compting in the LD, but christ knows there seems to have been very little about it AFAIK

ASC is a very exciting team, saw them play in december. they are a very gritty team defensively and love to throw the ball in attck. Of course this can make for some messy play, but this season seems to be paying off for them.
I very much like the Canaries this year... they could be a dark horse for the LER season this year.
Gee an ASC and Russian double in the weekend... phew that would be awesome!

Yeah, look a very exiting team on paper, nippy halfs (aitkin, sabri), some big classy backs like sia'a makisi and a bit of grunt up front too.

Its a straight knockout cup comp, like the Aussie panasonic cup used to be.
Open to teams mainly from the UK both Amateur and Professional, French teams, Russian teams and Scottish and Welsh teams, also the UK forces teams enter too.

That sghould be a half decent game actually. Ummm Whats the Challenge Cup Well my dear *Professor Druziks cap on* History lesson time. The Challenge cup is one of the oldest knockout cup competitions in any sport... I was first played in 1895 and its open to (nearly) all clubs amateur through to profesional. Its the FA cup of Rugby League and its has a long and proud history of producing some amazing moments. Its roots actually stem in Union, no surprise there and originally was called the Yorkshire Challenge cup I think, but once the split happened it just became known as the Challenge cup. I think to this day the CC still holds a record crowd for a single sporting event in the UK, with 110k at the old Bradford Northern ground in teh 1930's... I stand to be corrected... But yes it hold more prestiege than the ESL final actually and the final is something that everyone dreams to get to. St Helens have won it the last 3 years, which is a feat that has never been achieved, because it is a knockout comp... probably why its so highly regarded as each game is a one off game, you loose your out, so a team to win it really needs to show class and consistency though the tournament. Its final is usually on the Bank holiday long weekend in august and its played in Wembley, I went last year to the final with spud and was fantastic, 80k raging rl fans... london was invaded, every pub was full of RL fans! These days the whole weekns is a festival, with the london skolars on teh friday night having a game, the CC on a saturday and on the sunday a 9's tournament. Any questions?
