Ive been happy with the crowds so far, The game at parra definately grew as the game went on. I hear theyre expecting a big crowd to the Aus V Eng game this Sunday at Melbourne, ive heard around 40000. If they get a figure around that mark I will be very happy, as Melbourne is AFL mad. Yeah I think most of the english fans have been saving up for that one, you also have the spring racing carnival so I know from other forums people arer heading for that as well, so that will eat into their costs and so choose games wisely. I bet at least 10,000 of that crowd will be non australian... I am sure many neutrals will also be at that one... I think you will find many AFL fans are not really biggotry and they are happy to go out and support other sports international teams particularly if against England... there is only some that are these militant nutbags... similar with the soccer fans... because of the season not overlapping I am sure there is crossover there. I think have a feeling what we will see from this first round, people have seen how great the games have been and the great atmosphere and will probably think, hey lets head out for a match or two. Expect tickets for minor games to fill out some more in the next two weeks. I think Muffdivers assesments are pretty good on the crowd sizes. I'd be happy with those... but there will always be the knockers.

I am sick to death of people bagging the RLWC because of Australias prolonged dominance of the international game. We should be getting behind the kangaroos and enjoying the absolute top notch football they display. Like all great sporting reigns, the Kangaroos run will come to an end eventually, and they are definately not bullet proof, as we have seen over recent years with wins by NZ, and England over Aus. So far this world cup has been very competitive, with all games being close, with the exception of the Aus v NZ game. Well, I just got tickets to Saturdays NZ V PNG game, should be a physical encounter. Judging by where Ive been placed im expecting quite a good crowd. Ive heard alot of talk about whether PAX numbers matter or dont, but they are 9263, 9264.I also have tickets to the Final, and I have been counting the days for that for a long time now . Now if we can just get channel 9 to pick up their terrible coverage of the world cup so far, I see even the Australia v England match this Sunday is delayed again. Us Queenslanders are actually on a delay of an hour and a half because of daylight savings.

You making me jealous steve... NZ v PNG will be a great game... and if the teams stay on form then history will be made as the Kumuls beat NZ for the second time in a WC game (i think).
Pax numbers I think are a rough guide, I read somewhere that they dont necassairly go in sequence... so its very hard to know exactly the size. But if the GC crowds are anything to go by should get close to a full house. Am told that Skilled is an amazing stadium to League.

Australia have set the standard - it's up to the others to catch up, especially GB / England. That said the small nations - particularly the islands - are done no favours with the eligibility rules. Australia & NZ seem to pick & choose the best islanders at random & then discard them when someone better comes along. This needs to be tightened up.

NZ V PNG should get a good crowd but a near sell out might be a bit much to expect. 20k would be great IMO. Skilled Park is the second best ground I've been to, a great stadium and can generate plenty of atmposphere.
I'm hoping for 45,000 for the AUS V England game.
Also front page of the local paper today there was an article about the Rocky game and how tickets are selling fast, 3,400 so far which is great considering that is the first piece of promotion for the game I have seen or heard anywhere. They expect it to sell out next week sometime.

I'm happy with the crowds so far. An average of about 17,000 would be good enough for me.

Considering Australia is a sports mad country & most of the games have been in rl territory I think the crowds have been slightly disappointing. It's the first world cup for 8 years so it's quite a novel event so I would have thought a few more neutrals might have turned out to watch.
It's imperative that rl makes this a regular 4 yearly competition as in soccer & union - let's face it union has stolen a march on us with their world cup - every 4 years, high profile, lots of media coverage, etc. Also making it a regular event will encourage the likes of Tonga & Samoa to get better, & it will attract interest from other nations currently on the fringes like Lebanon.

As for the size of the crowds, I again agree maybe we should have been looking at better crowds, even if they gave tickets away at the end of the day, but in all honesty, we are looking at the start of something and hopefully, as you say once we enter a cycle for the WC we can build upon this and improve crowds, competition size, format and ultimatley the level of the competing nations.

Well the crowds in the end have been OK, 13.5 k is not too bad.
I am hoping this win by the kiwis will spur on IRL now.

An average of 16k is high enough, almost double the 2000 World cup. We have come a long way in 8 years.
