The plan for Germany is to host various local 9s events and try and get groups of players playing Rugby League.The 9s are open to teams from other nations, not just Germany.

The aim is to get teams playing Rugby League without the fear of trying to raise a team to play week in week out and face long journeys. Teams can borrow players to fulfill games in the 9s. Each 9s event is individual event, not a combined event. Also it will be easier to help new players and teams at 9s than them trying to play in a normal league system.

The plan in future is for the 9s to start of in June and early July. Then from this a 13 v 13 involving the 4 States where Rugby League is active in Germany. Then from this the National team is picked to play for Germany in late July and August. Sadly we had to change our plans around due to events outside our control this year. But we will still have 3 9s events, the State of Origin Championship and 2 internastionals. We also have had traing Weekends and sent a team to Sweden that won the Scandinavian 9s in April.

Damien Seibold is also setting up a German Exiles team in Australia to play in 7s events there. If you know of any Germans or German Heritage Players or just want to help Damo out in any way then please send us a PM.

Serbia overcame a second half comeback by a spirited German outfit to win the West section of the 2010 European Shield this evening at FC Radnicki Stadium in Belgrade.

The Serbians opened the scoring when hooker Zoran Pešić crossed for his first in a brace of four pointers. Dalibor Vukanović converted as he commenced a 26-point haul, after collecting 32 points last week against the Czech Republic in Prague.

The ensuing ill discipline of the Serbians gave Germany some fine field position and a cut out pass from Damien Seibold put Winger Max Schoengen in enough space to beat Kikanović and dive over for a try only four minutes later which silenced the home crowd and asked early questions of the Serbians. Both sides put in some biug strong runs and there was some explosive collisions often featuring the forwards. 19 year old Man Mountain, Thomas Isaak made a big impression on debut as did Ben Behr-Heyer and Max Fröschner who also were on debut Saturday night.

But the Serbian experience shone through and they took the chances that came there way. Germany then lost Captain Kris Keinhorst for a while, as he was taken high and late off the ball. He required 7 stitches in his eye lid but would return for the second half and put in another great performance. A Dalibor Vukanović double and Zoran Pešić’s try just before the break saw Serbia take a 24-4 half time lead. An encouraging half time speech from player coach Dan Stocks saw Germany come out all guns blazing and Serbia had major problems in stopping the Germans.

Some bright ingenuity from Damien Seibold who kicked on the first from a scrum at halfway and points machine Jimmy Keinhorst pounced on the ball to send alarm bells ringing for the Serbians. Bandaged up brother Kristian Keinhorst converted.

Then another Keinhorst, this time Nick Keinhorst, went over wide after a Seibold kick. Though the try was off the work of the forwards Dan Stocks Thomas Isaak and Bene Rehm.The margin was only 10 points. The Serbians were clearly rattled.

The Germans had their hard running six-foot-six 19-year-old prop Thomas Isaak leading the way for the German youth. Jimmy Keinhorst and was also causing many problems for the Serbians. This saw Germany in more good field positioin. Crucially a try from Ben Behr-Heyer was ruled out for double movement

Then in the following set of six, Stefan Nikolić putting the match beyond doubt with a 50 metre run down the right touchline and it was fitting, in the end, that Dalibor Vukanović would score his third try of the game in another man of the match performance.

Dalibor Vukanović ran straight through a tiring defence to notch up his hat trick and stamp his name on Serbia’s European Shield West victory. Germany can feel hard done by looking at the scoreline and the game was closer than the scoreline suggests. The Serbians rightfully are champions of the Euro Shield and are bigger and more experienced than the Germans and Czechs. Congrats to the Serbians And a mention must also be made of the Serbian RL who were the perfect hosts and they should be very proud both on and off the field what they have achieved.

German coach Danny Stocks was happy with his team’s performance despite the rather inexperienced squad he was able to prepare.Stocks commented, “Everyone gave 100% and I hope we can build on this performance when we play the Czech Republic in two weeks”

His opposite number, Serbia coach Marko Janković, was satisfied his combatants completed a successful European Shield campaign after the German second half scare.

Janković told reporters, “The Germans were very upset at the interval and they decided to go all or nothing in the second period and their two tries really shocked us”

“They put two scores, then in the middle of the second half we finally broke their defence and our physical preparation following the completion of our domestic championship showed in the end”

Rheinland Pfalz managed to become German Champions In near 40 C and beat Hessen containing German Internations Isaak, Schöngen, Koch and Schein. It was closer than the score suggests. Rheinland Pfalz had the Dynamic Duo of Jimmy Keinhorst and Benedikt Rehm to thank for the win But Rheinland Pfalz had other players like Jonas Burkhardt, Brian Shaw, Marius Kessler, Jasper Franke, Benjamin Lauer and Danny Ricciardi who provided a solid platform for the Duo to wrech havoc.

Hessen started off strongly, but just lacked the final cutting edge to score. But then Rheinland Pfalz got the first score, when Keinhorst raced 80 metres after stepping his way through the defence and converted his own try. Junior Saalwai went over after good work by Benedikt Rehm and Danny Ricciardi. Keinhorst converting.

It was all Hessen now with Nico Koch, Liam Doughton and Max Schöngen organizing things.But Thomas Isaak, the man mountain from Calbach Raccoons, shrugged off 4 players but Keinhorst at fullback somehow managed to partially stop him until further teammates completed the tackle. A chip over the top by Koch and the Calbacher, 16 year old Robin Schultz managed to get the ball down wide out, despite the attentions of a couple of players. No convertion.

This shocked Rheinland Pfalz and they hit back with tries to Ricciardi and Captain Rehm with Rehm and Keinhorst converting both tries. Hessen looked to be struggling in coping with Rheinland Pfalz. However the impressive Koch scored a great try from half way after strong running. Friedrich Schäufele converting this time. 24-10 at Halftime.

Second half started with forwards Isaak, Schein and Handy causing big problems for Rheinland Pfalz and Koch again showed power and speed to cross the whitewash. Schäufele converting. But the dynamic duo of Rehm and Keinhorst both added triesand Keinhorst converting both. Then a storming run from big prop Benjamin Lauer saw him add another try to Rheinland. As usual Keinhorst Converting to make the score 42-10.

Game over surely? Again another Isaak break and again no support play. But it brought good field position for Jakob Handy to crash over. Another young player from the Calbach club set up last summer by Max Schöngen.

Rheinland finished the game off with Marius Kessler crashing over wide out and Keinhorst missing his first kick of the day. Falkö Weber went over as well with Keinhorst again converting. But that was it for Rheinland. Hessen scored in the dieing seconds when again another Calbach youngster, Artur Schein went over after great running and aggression from his Calbach teammates Handy and Isaak got Rheinland in a mess. Schäufele adding the extras to make it Rheinland Pfalz 52 Hessen 28.

EUROPEAN SHIELD – WEST, Match 3

GERMANY 96 CZECH REPUBLIC 0 - Hochspeyer, Kaiserslautern

Germany secured second place in the 2010 European Shield West with an 18-try romp over a lacklustre Czech Republic in Hochspeyer, outside Kaiserslautern in the west of Germany.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Germans showed the potential they have, as they destroyed the Czechs both in attack and defence. And 12 of the 17 players were under 24 years old!

With From the very first tackle, the Germans showed that they meant business. This pleased the crowd of over 350, who were treated to the best display from a German side ever.

The Germans wanted to send 10 cap Veteran off in to retirement in style. And the manner they did it made "Opa" very happy. Cooper commented after the game "“It was a great team success today; I’m very proud of the guys and to be part of such a squad and a great victory.”

Trainer Dan Stocks scored after 3 minutes followed by young Captain Bene Rehm 5 minutes later. The Czechs, who had travelled overnight on a 8 hour journey simply could not match the Germans in any department and spent most of the time defending or given away penalties. They had injury problems both before and during the game. But even had the Czechs benefitted from a fit squad for the entire match, they would have struggled against a fitter, technically more proficient and hungrier Germany.

Christoph Huber broke through and raced over from 50 metres. Nico Koch and Jimmy Keinhorst as usual scoring tries for Germany. The Germans were simply ruthless.

A big cheer went up from the crowd, when Cooper went through a hole in the Czech defence of a great Stocks pass. Kristian Keinhorst converting as usual. The poor Czechs were just defending all the time, The odd time they did have the ball, they knocked on early in the tackle count, due to the heavy hitting German forwards.

Dan Stocks went over again. Paul Szehofner and Nick Keinhorst adding further tries. The half time score was 50-0. The Czechs were in a mess and the Germans simply outstanding. Would the Germans ease off in the second half?

Another break from Cooper, who had a massive game on his final appearance again had the Czechs in trouble. He then put a superb back flip pass inside to the supporting Nico Koch as he drew the fullback. The crowd went in to hysterics!

Damien Seibold grabbed a brace, Nico Koch, Jimmy Keinhorst Dan Stocks added more tries. Kristian Keinhorst put in a kick over the top and the ball bounced up for him to go over. The Czechs had no answers at all to the Germans.

Dan Stocks grabbed try number four. And Kristian Keinhorst brought up 96 points for Germany and finished with 30 points himself, with the conversion.

On reaching his tenth and final cap – the first German to achieve double figures – Cooper said, “For me the last six years have been a great honour, to start rugby league in Germany from nothing; from Rotterdam in 2005 when we only had six players and borrowed a Welshman to make up the numbers to now, where we have League being played in four states in Germany, is very rewarding and worth all the hard work.

The RL Deutschland board used the occasion to put together the building blocks for a new strategy which they are confident will result in substantial gains for the game domestically, a thought echoed by a bullish Cooper.

“The future for RL Deutschland is to keep growing at home, as well as internationally. It’s been a great honour and it’s now time for the young German guys to push through. Today, they showed they deserve to be in the national time.”
