So, who do people think will be in the semis? So you can select 4 options.
For me, Australia, England, PNG and France.

I can't see PNG beating NZ. I just went with the big 4 teams. I know what your saying, But I saw (and met) PNG last year on their tour and was impressed. Their first game against Wales was a bit tough, in the conditions but they certainly turned it on on the french and were unlucky in the second test. I also saw and met the Kiwis in Paris and I am just worried that some of the players are not playing for the heart of the Kiwis... many do have the PI backgrouns... which is OK... but I think they'd rather be in a PI than NZ. They didn't seem to have the love and respect for the Jumper. If any of the top 3 teams do not turn up to play then the PNGers will get'em. Plus I'd like to see a few upsets and teams get pushed. You read about what Waled did in 2000 and makes me wich I was there to see it.

You read about what Waled did in 2000 and makes me wich I was there to see it. Well I did hear that Wales made the final, that's about it. I think that PNG's best chance is against England in Townsville. It's just been winter up there so the English won't be used to the heat and the conditions should suit PNG fine. Honestly I can see PNG's style upseting a few teams and they'll give one of the big three a scare. I think they'll do well at the star of each of their games but slow towards the end. I think PNG lack the experience of a lot of NRL or ESL players which I think is essential. I also rthink as was shown by France vs NZ last year it's no so hard to compete with big teams but it's pretty hard to go that extra step and actually beat them. I rember at the 2003 RU world cup Fiji vs France and Fiji gave the France a real go in the first 30 mins and the game was pretty close. Then ill discipline and iredness came a long and France won 61-18, I can see the same thing happening with PNG.

C'mon guys be more adventurous than that! Sorry dan i just cant really look past the four, the only upset i could possibly see is France getting turned by either the other sides in their group or the other "minnow" group winner. I know theres been a lot of talk about PNG "ambushing" England and this or that about conditions suiting PNG........ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papua_New_Guinea_national_rugby_league_teamthis link shows that the inhospitable conditions have only served PNG once in the last 10 meetings with the big 3, so i dont buy it.

Truth be told, I don't care who they get, as long as they get someone... ahhh the eternal optimist in me comes out again.... Lyon for the championship 2009!

Look I can't see PNG getting through but neither can I see NZ doing the same. For me France and England will most likely be there and Australia will definately. But I can see Ireland and Fiji giving them a run for their money. .... Lyon for the championship 2009! No, LEZIGNAN!
