I met up today with of the the board members of the Jamaican Rugby League .
As you know in the West Indies it is only Jamaica that plays rugby league .
This is about to change as their is enough interest in Cuba and the Dominican Republic to start developing .
As it is now West Indian countries will play under their own countries name with the exception of any exhibition matches in England using NL1 and NL2 players .
As was the case with the West Indies and the South African Wild Dogs in 2004.only English based players .
They are looking at having a West Indies side every four years or so , much like unions British Lions tours .
However ,in the future a West Indies side will be formed when their is enough representation from other countries .

Great news, they are a great built for RL, from what I've seen of the cricketers there are alot of Muscle bound, tall, strong people there. I heard alot of the young west indians are being poached by the NBA and that is one of the reasons the WI cricket team is going through a weak period.

Actually that is a total myth, there are no stats that show that. Do you know of any famous Jamaican BB'ers? I don't

Any word on the supposedly upcoming match between Jamaica and the USA??
Should be only 10 days away now so both squads should be pretty much finalised (if it's even happening)?

Yeah its been off for a while now .
Jamaica were to plat the US in Jamaica in Kingston and then the US got a better deal to play Wales so they cancelled and Wales ended up getting the gig with England .
Jamaica have been trying to get it moving again and the USA arent showing any interest. Dont even return their calls or emails .
I have been told that some of the higher profile board members can be quite arrogant at times .
Sad really .

WI's is like what I would call their version of the PI's if they ever turned professional.

Like Russia last month there is a good article on RL in Jamaica in RLW this month. Despite the opeing where the writer is saying the WC should be 16 teams because it would be good to have Russia, Usa, Lebanon and Wales there! OK maybe so but it wouldn;t look good when they're playing in front of 5,000 and getting flogged. Alot of interesting stuff in there though, the comp looks likely to go from 6 teamas to 8 next year, they plan to play in holland next year and perhaps most intyeresting of they plan to have an atlantic tournament with USA, South Africa and "possibly some other African nations" held in Jamaica. Oh and they hope to qualify for the next WC... good luck to them. Oh and the best part "The game is going well in the Caribbean. It has a higher profile than Rugby Union at the moment". ;D
