Serbian Champioships - Round 1 26th Apr, Novi Sad: Podbara 22-12 Palilulac Hammers26th Apr, Belgrade: Belgrade University XIII 30-32 Red StarDorcol Spiders bye Crowd on the match in Belgrade was about 100. If it was not Easter holiday now in Serbia, I suppose that a lot more students would come to watch their colleagues playing and also BU XIII were short for some of their largest players, who went home in inlands for holidays. I didn't go to Novi Sad, so I don't know about the crowd on that match. The both matches were very close and competitive until the last minutes. Details of Round 1 on Serbian RL web-site: www.rugbyxiii.co.yu/snc/08/r1.htm.

Last Saturday saw the first match of newly established Serbian RL club - Kolubara form Belgrade boundary suburb of Lazarevac. Kolubara is the name of the river running through Lazarevac and also thermoelectric power plant on whose sports center match was played. Their opponent were Serbian U18s who prepare for U18 Euro Nations Cup.
With more matches in their legs and hands, Serbian juniors defeated spirited, but unexperienced host, who were strengthen with few Red Star players. Kolubara led 12-0 at the start, but the score at the end was convincing 24-42 for visitors. The match kicked-off at 20h30 in front of 200 people and was followed by two local TV stations and covered by several newspapers including national sports daily "Sport".

It was team vs junior national team, I don't know where should you classify it. This is short article in daily newspapers "Sport" (in Serbian Cyrillic, of course):

Serbian RL web-site is updated. One of the main news is that two player, Zoran Pesic and Dalibor Vukanovic, went to Wakefield to play in one of BARLA teams, Eastmoor Dragons.

I've been busy these days, so I didn't mess up too much with rugby league. As far as I know, it is going to be regional selection match (Prague XIII v Belgrade XIII) and continuation of the Slavic Cup. It is possible that Jovan Vujosevic, Serbian RL main man and Andy or Milan Mrtynek (I don't know who he arranged with this event) changed plans during last two weeks (for example, made this selections something like President's XIIIs).
In this part of year, it is very hard to gather full national team and send them abroad, and I believe that similar situation is in Czech Republic. So, it is better to continue the competition this way that to break good tradition. I was thinking that this Cup should be club competition one day when Czech form national championship, and maybe to involve some Russian teams in it (for example, the first Russian team which do not enter Challenge Cup to play Slavic Cup versus the champions of Serbia and Czech Republic). Continuity of the Cup is the most important and I think that this (intercity or so-called President's XIII/development teams) is the best for 2008.
Maybe this way, Czechs will have more chance to win, and for some young Serbian boys, or the other who don't have too many opportunities to play international matches, to try themselves.

What an excellent idea and way to do things. Very well done to Czech and Serbioan RL for organising this. Great to hear that the slavic cup will continue. Like you say to get Russians and/or Ukranians involved in the future would be goo as well as since they are Slavs as well.
Excellent work.

More good news coming out of what is becoming my favourite emerging RL nation! cheers for the heads up spider. Totally agree, the way they're moving forward is great. I would love to see them win the euro-med this year. As I have said many6 times before since now Wales are the bottom of the top tier they should have a game against the winner of euro-med to try and keep their spot, same with the loser of the euro-med V Italy and Czechs V Latvia etc. I wouldn't put it past Serbia to make the next WC at this rate.

On the weekend of 16/17 August Belgrade XIII selection won Slavic Cup. They defeated Prague XIII selection 36-20. The match was played in Prague under heavy rain, so congratulations to both teams on display. Serbian team was mostly composed of inexperienced boys who played international match for the first time and Czechs had few boys who will participate in U18s Euro Nations Cup this September in their country.

Found this on another forum.
Can you enlighten us on this Spider?
Maybe he meant Scotland, hard to see how they will play Serbia unless they have just organised to play each other outside of a tournament. If they're in a tournament it would have to be them, Ireland, Scotland and Russia or Lebanon.
Also I doubt Wales will be the 2nd best NH side seeing as Francw ill likely be in the 4N. Actually I think Wales would be the 5th best side in the NH at the moment.

OK, while you were asking yourselves what would be the format of the 2009 European competitions, there were some talks about the same thing in the RLEF and among the nations.
As far as I heard next year it is going to be organized European Nations Cup in two pools (one: Ireland, Wales, Serbia and two: Scotland, Russia, Lebanon) of the same range. Winners of the pools would obviously (but I don't know yet if it's correct) play final for the title. England and France will play Four Nations, so this should be top European competition next year.
Wales coach announced it before everyone, and we should believe him, because he is closer to the source of informations than anyone of us.
