Anyone think that league should consider trying to get a place in the World Games? For those that don't know the games are for sports that are not part of the Olympics.
Seeing as union is not going to be part of the World Games anymore due to sevens being made an Olympic sport, maybe there's a space for the 13 man game there?
Of course it would have to be decided whether to make it a nines tournament or a full 13-a-side competition, but I reckon there's definitely an opening there to give the sport some more exposure on the international stage.

Good idea. World Games don't seem to be that big, we could do it. I think 9's would be the best option.

If it does then it has to be at a 9's level. A full 13 a side match would take too long to recover and youd need more than 2 weeks to play it.
With ('s you can have Pool matches etc.. and the finals all done on one weeknd of a 3-4 day stretch.

This definitely sounds like something with a lot of potential... However the next World Games are in 2013. Then 2017. According to the RLIF's plans, these will be RLWC years. Would this be a huge hindrance?
Take a squad of 15 out of a league in the middle of a season. Let's say for a fortnight, for training, travel and competing. Could it be done? What did the Super14 do when the Commonwealth Games sevens were on?
Not to be such a downer though, the exposure would be large and the entertainment value in a nines competition would be incomparable. Getting 4 pools of 4 would not be too difficult either, even if the bigger league nations didn't compete. The top 6 nations on the all-time medal count all have rugby league sides...

Depends what time the world games are held. Most 9's tournaments are in the February and March months so would not bee too much of a hindrance... the other thing is that the players dont have to come from NRL... we can do what the Olympics do with the Soccer and make them U21's... what we can do is rather than put the gae limit in have a level limit, say players only from the Bundy red cup or the affiliated state leagues can qualify (This is for australia, similar would happen for other nations) so it gives a nice incentive for those players to aspire for national representation etc...

Yeah that sounds quite good. Something like a Junior Kangaroos side... Would definitely make it a very level playing field. Should we be starting a petition on this or something?
