the Central coast bears launched thier bid at their new offices in Erina this weekend. their new website is very impressive: www.centralcoastbears.com.au/this team isnt in the NRL yet and already they look a lot more organised than most NRL clubs.

Does look nice... see what happens hey. I have a bad feeling the NRL will flunk things again though.

I'm firm in my belief that Central Coast must be a relocation or come at the expense of a Sydney team. NSW has enough teams as it is.

Which team would you frelocate that wont either kill off the fans, loose a massive junior base, loose massive finaces or all of the above? 2013 - 20 teams can be done... even as sportsmad has talked about do a conference system.

I agree maybe not so early but eventually. But maybe 2020. Can you imagine having the Central Coast Bears playing the Knights and Manly I'll put a wager with anyone that those games would be sellouts given the history that has/is developing between the sides. Next would be either Central Qld or Logan/Ipswich in Qld can you you imagine if either got in and played the Broncos. Then eventually the W.A.Reds and either Wellington or Canterbury in NZ and bang you have another derby

I'm not against a conference system. I think that that would actually work incredibly well. I really don't think 20 teams can be done. That means we need about another 80 first grade quality players in 4 years. Plus, I only see 3 places as being able to hold teams. Perth, CC and another one in QLD. 4th QLD and Perth have to be the next two for me. So CC will either ave to be a relocation or it will be a 19 team competition.

Its called, UK, France, and the ex-pat aussies that are plying their trade in Europe. Through those two comps there are 4 teams worth of very good NRL level tallent and many of the POms would be able to make it I think as well as french players. If we want to help improve PNG rather than giving them a team where everything goes just to the Australian system, why not have PNG players start playing in the NRL teams get experince become heroes at hme, help the local comp build up to a level where the facilities and money and player level is much higher and then in say 2020 look a NRL frenchise for PNG? 20 teams I think is extremely do-able, if there are so many teams already that think they can make it they obviously feel that there is enough player stock out there... Perth would be having a teams no, and when the Victorian Juniors start coming through that will free up some of the current QLD/NSW players to look for other clubs... How many of the NSW and QLC teams have millions of dollars of NRL stock running around... quite a few.

Going to have to disagree about who you have next in the Central Coast are country miles ahead of any other bid team and basically ticked all the boxes except for getting in. God help Gallop if either The Entrance Tigers (returning to the now Bundy Red Cup) or the Central Coast Crusaders (the new NSW Cup team) win either of the comps or the roar for a team on the coast will become deafening

As I understand, there is some rugby league there but only at a small level. They can make it a national competition, drastically increase TV revenue and spread the game to a new place. You could have CC before a QLD side but I still think QLD deserves a 4th team before NSW gets an 11th. The fact that rugby league is already strong in the Central Coast unfortuanetly works against them in my mind. I think the Bears would be very successful but I think that other teams would spread rugby league more and that is what expansion is ultimately about.

Though I wouldnt argue if CC NSW got the nod. Perth has to be in. And Kiwi Fan is correct, QLD deserves a fourth team. Whoever misses out is going to be devastated. But as Kiwi says its about expansion, this is why AFL is going into Western Sydney and not Tasmania. Tasmania have an absolute top notch bid on the table for an AFL club but they keep getting ignored because theyre already AFL mad. They want to convert fans from other codes and I think this is what we should be doing too.

im a huge fan of geographical expansion, as my posts might indicate. i would love to see the southern orcas in the NRL more than any team. i also think perth is prime for a team. the announcement of significant upgrades to bring members equity on par with skilled and melbournes swan st stadium just reinforces that view.
whats a more worthwhile venture though; converting die hard AFL fans for the sake of geographical expansion, or solidifying demographically dense areas that have a history of rugby league? take for example campbelltown. if australia win the bid a soccer world cup campbelltown is favoured to recieve a brand spanking new 40,000 capacity, $400 million world class stadium (keep in mind skilled park cost $160m, suncorp $250m and melbourne recatngualr $320m). what a waste it would be to have the west tigers play only 3 measly games out there because at least 50% of the west tigers board are balmain through and through. the population of macarther is projected to be over 300,000 in under 10 years (currently 250,000). a significantly high percentage of that population follow league. 3 or 4 games per year is hardly justice.
another example is woollongong, which recently announced a $29m stadium makeover. the population has a large league following with a current population of just under 300,000. is 6 games per year enough....
i admit, it could be argued that these areas arent regularly packing out the stadiums and until they are their current quota could be justfied.
these two examples are also the reason im an advocate of a conference system in the long term.
in saying all this , at the end of the day i support non sydney teams for expansion in the short term.
P.S the perth staging of the dragons trial game in feb a day after a coompetition western force game wont help crowdwise. neither will having it on valentines day

haha i agree, brookie is a disgrace. i live in the area and sydney church of england grammer school (shore) actually has a better stadium for their high school rugby games at northbridge. i read a while back that the local council were considering putting it up for a local vote on whether to contribute moeny for an upgrade. its all the local council IMO. holding the club back big time.
