The Hotels of Jacksonville.com Rugby League Atlantic Cup will bring more awareness and training for the unsung dedication of those guys that are part of the AMNRL officiating ranks.
With a combined effort between the Jacksonville Axemen, the American National Rugby League (AMNRL) and the Rugby Football League (RFL) a clinic will be held for the domestic officials that will allow them to be apart of the game day crew that will take control of match.
Ben Thaler, who is a professional referee in the European Superleague is being sent over by the RFL as the neutral match referee as part of an offer accepted by the Axemen to help development efforts. Prior the game Ben will also run a two day clinic for AMNRL officials to expose them to first class and first hand knowledge of international competition. Rob Irwin who heads up the AMNRL officials sent an invitation out to all the domestic officials today to encourage their attendance and take advantage to this clinic.
At the completion of the clinics. five of the domestic AMNRL officials will be chosen by Ben to fill the roles of both Touch Judges (side-line), both In-Goal (end-zone) and the interchange official.
This selection process is not only a great process to get developing nations officials first hand training but also provides them with a great opportunity and honor in being a part of the officiating crew that will control a true international game.
The Jacksonville Axemen would like to thank both the RFL for their offer of sending Ben Thaler over and also Rob Irwin from the AMNLR for encouraging and supporting this important and often overlooked opportunity for the domestic guys.
It is just as important in any sport to develop your officials as it is to develop the playing core and the collaboration between everyone involved shows the serious commitment that exists in making sure the all aspects of Rugby League development in the USA are being address.
