Assault at kids football match

A parent allegedly ran on to a football field and assaulted a 15-year-old rugby union player during a match in Caloundra last Friday night.
Police were called to Lighthouse Park at about 7pm and found a larger fight had broken out between the Caloundra Lighthouses and University of the Sunshine Coast under 15 rugby union teams.
Caloundra Police Station officer in charge Sergeant Bob Martin said no charges had been laid following the incident because no official complaints had been made.
“We believe the clubs are handling the matter internally and did not wish to make official complaints,” Sgt Martin said.
Caloundra Lighthouses junior division president Tony Green declined to comment in relation to the matter and University of the Sunshine Coast junior teams president Robin Copeland said the incident had not been brought to his attention.
Sunshine Coast Rugby Union’s junior division president Steve Chapman said reports and statements relating to the incident were now being gathered and a hearing before a judiciary panel consisting of two lawyers and an SCRU representative would be held.
“Violent behaviour at junior matches will not be tolerated and will be dealt with as the judiciary sees fit,” Mr Chapman said.
“This could mean a coach is stood down, a team is de-registered and trouble causing parents banned from attending games.”
These allegations come in the wake of an Australian Rules football melee which occurred at Pomona last Sunday during a match between the Noosa Tigers and the Chancellor Park Eagles.
An incident reported to have involved a coach and a boundary umpire is being investigated by AFL Queensland.
Yesterday a spokesman from AFL Queensland said results of the investigation were still pending.
