19 September kicks off the season with a Cup winners shield.
This is where the Lord Derby Winners play the Championship winners.
Its the first time since 1973 they are doing this so a big occasion. Thus this years game is:

I'd like to see Montpelliar do well, I heard they are planning on promotion to Elite next season so hope all goes well for them. Same with Lyon, hope they can rebuild and have another crack. I read in RLW that LEzignan may be bidding to play in the Championship presumably if Toulouse gets promoted. Can't say I like this idea because there isn't really a chance that Lezignan would get a SL team so why go from one semi-pro league to another. Maybe if they were to work with Carcassone to get an Aude team but I don't know if that's a chance of happening. TBH I don't think the RFL will even extend another invitation to a French team unless it's one with a big population base bidding, what would be the benifit of having small town clubs like Lezignan leaving the Elite for the Championship? very few if any. Maybe if Stade Francias were to put out a League team or Montpelliar or Lyon get promotion and do well. |

The new format because of the numbers................. first round sees twenty clubs outside the top flight play off.
The next round sees Corbeil, winners of Élite 2 last season, join the ten winners. Three clubs will get byes while the other eight face off.
The following round sees the nine Élite 1 clubs, the four winners and the three receiving byes play off and then it's straight knockout with the semis on neutral ground.
