The ARL and RFL ought to think about riving the Rugby League Ashes. The series could be held in England and Australia every 4 years, with the venue alternating every 2 or so years. For example, Australia would host it in 2010-2011, while England would host it in 2013. Playing a revamped version of the series alongside the Test cricket Ashes would draw an interest from dedicated tourists from the Barmy Army and Fanatics.
The greatest aspect behind the aforementioned model is it'll allow Australian/English cricket fans from non-rugby league states/counties to gain a better understanding of our sport.

Bruce I think you will get your wish, this will be happening in 2012, the next round of tours i.e. and I believe this is when the ashes will be on.

will the 2012 one be great britain or england though? I think it should be Great Britain. I like bringing back the ashes but we should worry about scheduling it with the cricket version.

Then it takes prestige away from the England side. I think we should try and dump the Great Britain thing. I like all the Home Nations playing seperately, so they will all eventually build up. But no one really knows the Rugby League Ashes, like the cricket ones, so we should try and schedule around the England one like E3L said.

I would like them to "steal" a idea from union have the Southern Hemisphere teams play the 5 nations in this order Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and then England

Well I see the tours something like this have NZ and Australia tour to France and UK.
Wednesday 0 - Russia v New Zealand, Serbia v Australia
----------
Weekend 1 - England v Australia Kangaroos, France v New Zealand Kiwis Wednesday 1 - ESL Champions v Australian, Elite Champions v New Zealand
----------
Weekend 2 - England v Australian Kangaroos, France v New Zealand Kiwis Wednesday 2 - Scotland v Australian, Morocco vs. New Zealand
----------
Weekend 3 - England v Australian Kangaroos, France v New Zealand Kiwis Wednesday 3 - Ireland v Australia, Wales v New Zealand
----------
Weekend 4 - France v Australia Kangaroos, England v New Zealand Kiwis Wednesday 4 - Wales v Australia, Ireland v New Zealand
----------
Weekend 5 - France v Australia Kangaroos, England v New Zealand Kiwis Wednesday 5 - Morocco v Australia, Scotland v New Zealand
----------
Weekend 6 - France v Australian Kangaroos, England v New Zealand Wednesday 6 - Russia v Australia, Serbia v New Zealand
So the test against england and france would see the full Kangaroo and Kiwi squads and the minor matches are the fringe players, like the Emus teams of old. Its also important for fringe teams like Russia and Serbia to have a couple matches as well i think.

Australia play England every year so I think we need to make the ashes a bit different to normal tests. Hopefully if Wales, Ireland and Scotland can improve there will be a lot more players from those countries making the Great Britain side. This would hopefully then increase the anticipation for the series. If you scheduled this next to the cricket series I would watch the cricket. Then there's is the logistical side. Do we want a 5 week break in the middle of the season to play these games? That would be necessary when the ashes were hosted in Britain. Or will our rugby players want to play in the burning hot Australian summer a few month after their season was meant to end? This would happen if the ashes were hosted in Australia. Also, if we wanted to host them at the same times cricket would have to get behind it. We would look silly if we played our version of cricket's idea during a time when they didn't want us to.

No. Definitely not during the cricket series obviously. It should be scheduled at a different time. But I was saying people will identify with the Ashes being England vs Australia, rather than Great Britain vs Australia.

What good would Morocco or Serbia get from being flogged by the top sides, theres no way in the world that should be allowed to happen mate. Russia possibly might gain from those fixtures but not Morocco or Serbia theres too bigger gap

They've got the European Cup, let them get semi successful in that before we lead them to the slaughter.

It would the fringe players, the Emus that go and not the Kangaroos though.... but hey doesnt have to be Russia, Play the Yanks, or the Jamaicans or something.... lets get a good tour and exposure if we do it. AFAIC either do a full proper tour or don't do it at all.

im divided one this. the benefits of it happening could be great. exposure would be so good for our game. the reason im divided is that i can see triple digit scorelines and on paper the inequity of the teams is way too large at the moment. in saying this i think back to the kangaroos/ tomohawaks game. USA almost had that game in the bag....

I think Elite Champions and Serbia are a stretch too far. I like playing teams like Ireland and Wales but not games where the score will be 80-0. Big scorelines look bad for the game and make us look uncompetitive. It would garner little interest. I would do what Druzik said being a bit more conservative.
