Spell bound by OriginSource: Westside NewsWHEN DJ Ives watched his first State of Origin match after moving to Australia, he knew rugby league was the sport for him. The American-born Ives signed on with the West’s Panthers and his love for the game has only strengthened. ``When I first came out here I watched a State of Origin match and thought I’d start playing,’’ he said. ``League is the first contact sport I have played and I just love the thrill of running and scoring.’’ Now his younger sister Maive has also caught league fever and will this year line up for the under-7s in her debut season. ``She also just liked rugby league and now she is playing in the under-7s.’’ As for a favourite team. ``The Cowboys.’’ And that is definitely North Queensland, not Dallas. Meanwhile the Panthers are still chasing boys and girls who are born in 1999 for the under-10s age group. The club has too many players for one team but not enough for a second.
