THE Solomon Islands Rugby League Executive is organising trial matches this weekend to select a Solomon Islands National Rugby League 7s team to participate in the upcoming South Pacific Mini Games in Cook Islands.
The Executive has identified two technical people from Papua New Guinea and Australia who are willing to help in the trials and trainings in preparation for the South Pacific Mini Games in September this year.
Chairman of the Solomon Islands Rugby League (SIRL) William Tuhaika said the trial matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Panatina Oval to allow potential players from all denomination to participate.
“This trial matches will be used to identify and select potential players to form the National Rugby League 7s squad to represent the country in the mini games.
“The selectors will select an initial training squad of 20, which will be scaled down to final 12 players to go to Cook Islands,” he said.
The Rugby League executive is calling on all players who played in the three exhibition matches during the lunching and to individuals who indicated interest with their experiences to attend the trails matches.
Tuhaika said individuals and clubs who wish to take part are encouraged to summit their names or turn up at the venue at the given time.
In earlier reports, Tuhaika confirmed that Solomon Islands Rugby League has received offers from the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) who are willing to provide assistance.
It was in this same note that the RLIF pledged to send two educators and instructors to the Solomon Islands and strongly encouraged SIRL to participate in the Games.
Earlier this month NOCSI have officially announced that Solomon Islands will participate in 12 sports.
Rugby League is among the 12 sports been given the green light to make up Team Solomons.
Individuals and clubs who are interested to submit their names to the Secretary, Silverio (Sol-Law on: 23886) before the weekend falls.
