In an effort to get the 2009 season underway the Axemen are allowing their fans and supporters a chance to by season tickets and membership at reduced rates given that exact dates of home games have not been finalized. With the local packs being offered at $45 and $20 (both with shirts) and a confirmed 6 events, you can attend games for as little as $3.50 and still enjoy $1 beers. They have even offered a way for International and remote fans to support the team with a new supporter pack.
An Axemen spokesperson said it is a pretty simple idea, "This is the time of year that we have a lot of preseason operating costs. We have a pretty good idea about training camp, scrimmages and pre-season games, but we do not have the exact dates of all our regular season home games at this stage. If our fans are willing to support us with buying tickets this early then we feel it is only fair to reward them with discounted rates."
With so much to be done both on player selection and operating plans the Axemen have a lot to do over the next two months. They are a long way off from printing programs and actual tickets at this stage but basic time-lines have now been confirmed. Spinner Howland added, "If we can have people buy these packs on-line and then pick them up at the first event it is a win for us all. We are not only saving ourselves a few dollars in mailing etc, but we are also saving ourselves alot of operating time and there is no reason we should not pass this onto the fans. If people are willing to invest in us this early in the season when we only have a few confirmed dates and then a time-line for the rest of the season, I feel it is only fair to give them a deal on tickets." A basic schedule has been posted on the site and will be update as more dates are confirmed Spinner said.
The Axemen stated that Rugby League is also a pretty close group around the world and they have had a few fans say they would like to help the Axemen team. By offering them something in return for their support they feel that the Axemen brand will also grow globally. This is not only good for the Axemen but for the City of Jacksonville.
The Axemen also acknowledged the economy is also making it interesting to find ways to ensure a successful season. They have taken the stance that it is better for everyone to have more fans at a lower price than the other way round.
Axemen Co-Owner Drew Slover commented, "We are a growing team and a growing sport and in this economy people are looking at less expensive events and entertainment, especially if you are taking the whole family. If we can attract more fans by offering attractive pricing then we all win. Our players are happy because they have more fans, our Sponsors get more exposure, the concessions guy gets more customers and therefore can keeping offering $1 beer and low priced food and if we have made all those people happy, then the rest will take care of itself. We know we have a great product in Rugby League and the more people we let see it the better off we will be."
The discounted tickets will stay on sale until the AMNRL schedule is announce. The Axemen have also presented a proposal to host the 2009 National Championship game and if they are successful then it will also be included in the season ticket packages.
