Alibert to become full time as second French match official joins RFL

Thierry Alibert is to join the RFL as a full time match official.

The 38-year old Frenchman has agreed a one year contract. He will be based in Leeds and will train with the RFL's full-time match officials at Leeds Metropolitan University's Carnegie Campus.

Also, the RFL can confirm that French referee Mohammed Drizza (27) will join the Co-operative Championship match officials squad with immediate effect.

Both appointments have been made in partnership and consultation with the French Rugby League Federation.

During 2008, Thierry Alibert - who made his Grade One debut eight years ago - refereed four engage Super League matches and also officiated regularly in the Co-operative National Leagues.

He has officiated in the 2000 and 2008 World Cups and has refereed in RFL domestic competitions since 2001.

Alibert will immediately be available for appointments in engage Super League and the Co-operative Championship and Championship One during 2009.

Commenting on the appointment, the RFL's Match Officials Director Stuart Cummings said, "We are delighted to appoint Thierry Alibert to our full-time match officials squad.

"Thierry has established himself as a top level referee with high quality domestic and international experience. We believe his appointment is positive news for the RFL's domestic competitions and the sport at world level as we seek to develop the quality of match officials in all Rugby League playing nations".

Cummings added, "The appointment also highlights the career path available to all match officials and we can confirm that we will be creating another opportunity in the near future when we offer another full-time contract".

Mohammed Drizza has refereed at the highest level of the French domestic game including several Championship Finals. He will be based in France but will travel to the UK regularly to train with the RFL's match officials' squad. He will be available for appointments in both France and the UK.

In addition, the RFL will also seek to appoint two Touch Judges from the French competition to work regularly in the Co-operative Championship and Championship One

Stuart Cummings concluded, "The appointment Mohammed Drizza is also another important step as the RFL and the French Federation continue to work together productively to develop match officials for the domestic and international game.".
