i knew you would have a rection like this druzik. ive heard the sharks are asset rich with low liquidity a few times. i guess what i keep thinking back to is earlier this year when the club tried to get a $1m loan to pay staff and a few debts and were only accepted for a $500k loan. for an asset rich client this just shouldnt happen. whilst were on the stadium though i will mention they butchered the redevelopemtn of the ground. they were given 13 mil or 17 mil or something along those lines and they built a small one teir stand. whilst they would have been extremely greatful for the government grant i think if managed better a decent two tier stand could have been built. the ground has had its once in a decade renovation and will stay behind the ball compared to some other stadiums for quite a while , assuming the club stays afloat. i still maintain my comments from months ago that if two clubs were to be sacraficed it would be the roosters and the sharks. yeah every game is live on free to air tv cant remember week one of the finals series having this many great match-ups, and i dont even go for any of the teams. ill be envious if u get to go to skilled park for that match. get some photos , whatever game u go

another year at the bottom and sharks will be really strugling to keep that club afloat. not such a bad thing its finals time and i am not moving from my couch groove this weekend. some great matches. friday sees melbourne take onmanly in the grandfinal rematch in melbourne. its at trhe dome and will take on AFL finals right next door at the G. wil be interesting to see the crowd. i hope for a 30k+ crowd saturday sees what was described today in the papers as a "cival war" with the titans taking on the broncos. tix should be snapped up in seconds. later sat night sees the dogs take on knights at ANZ stadium. sunday sees the dragons take on the eels. i dont care what dragons fans say this game should be moved to the SFS. its rediculous that it isnt. Why should the perenial chokers move there game to SFS? They earnt the right to play it wherever they want i see your point, kogarah is a fortress. i will say the push to move the game to a larger stadium is driven mostly by the media but for once i have to agree with them. i can see all the fortress, great atmoshere suburban grounds, better for longterm membership and corperate support etc....... however, our game isnt comparatively rich and its these oportunities we really need to take. i dont see it as selling out. i'd argue a 40k crowd at the SFS is actually a better atmosphere than an under 18k sellout at kogarah. the club has been offered an extra $250k to move the game. what club can turn that amount of money down in todays econmic climate. peter doust has said "you wouldnt be critisizing manly or whoever if they had it at brookie" but the dragons are a lot bigger club IMO. at the end of the day if more dragons fans can see the game live and the newcastle brigade of grannys and die hard fans can travel down the F3 to cheer on adam macdougal and kurt gidley and be fit in i think its better for everyone.

i knew you would have a rection like this druzik. ive heard the sharks are asset rich with low liquidity a few times. Yes its one of the few things that gets me to bite strait up! They are a very asset rich club. when you come to the ground the 800m or so of park land along Jamed Cook Dr that goes from the factories to the ground is all theirs... then the land behind the carpark and around the back of the servo is also theirs, and in cronulla they own several buildings as well that they rent out. I heard they got it, the loan, the issue was that it was when the Matt Johns thing hit and everyone seemed to be b-lining cronulla with shoulder charges that the bank and others were getting a bit gittery... but they got it AFAIK. Again I am not sure where you got these figures... I have only heard something about half of that they got from the council. So they went from a small two level hill that holds at most about 500 people to a multi purpose and modern stand that holds several thousand... I don't think its too bad an investment. The other things is that to redevelop the peter burns and ET stands would cost considerably more than 17 million, they are big stands as it is. The big issue is the bloody POwer lines that run through the middle of the Kiddie hill, they need to be moved and that will cost money. The stadium will get its upgrade with the redevelopments they got, that's the whole point, the stadium will become part of a sport resort of sorts where not only the NRL team plays but the facilities will be world class and be used for many other sports and teams. I just dont get all this wanting to kill clubs off... you get it in no other sport... in england everyone want this team and that team to die in australia as well... what is RLs obsession with suicide! People for 40 years have said that the sharks will never make it... and yet they are still there... in fact premierships aside, they have a pretty good record over the last 40 years when it comes to making play offs. Jesus... say good buy to rugby league. if you do that I count about 14 big games and derbys gone right there... anyone that says that any sydney clubs need to be culled needs to take a Bex! How do two cashed up clubs that have fierce rivalries with 1/2 the teams in the comp being culled make things good. Roosters, you need the rich yuppie club, its the club that all the other "workingclass" clubs love to hate. Everyopne has pot shots at east for having money to buy players, this is why their rivalry is good, get rid of that and you are killing off an apex predator in the food chain. Plus the fans will quite willingly switch to Union over there, they are all private school kids in those suburbs and don't have the aversion to the XV man game the way the rest of us do... they are the ones that support the wannabies. Sharks are probbaly the only "real workingclass" team left in the comp. Cronulla and sutherland is still the battler area, its the lower middle class incomes where parents struggle to make ends meat, yet see the footy as their one outlet. Sunday afternoon footy showed this, get a game on at shark park at 3pm even when they are loosing and you get 14-15k out there... I am sorry but the NRL and media went on a witch hunt this year and deliberately tried to screw the sharks over... we got through the year and have had the last laugh AFAIC. Manly and other teams have just as many money troubles if not more and yet do we hear of them getting trashed... no... becasue they are not the sharks everyone loves to knock the sharks... I'ts why I love and support them because they always have been the underdog team, the team that means the most to its fans bar none AFAIC. Just saw that in the TV guide. Saturday is fantastic, three live RL games on two FTA TV stations! I am starting to think that Skilled will be sold out already, I think the GF will be a smarter way to go.

i see your point, kogarah is a fortress. i will say the push to move the game to a larger stadium is driven mostly by the media but for once i have to agree with them. OK so what the point of having the incentive of a home final then. Lets just have all the games at the SFS or ANZ and be done with it... or better still do what the POms do in the CC and have them at neutral venues! The SFS would not sell out, if Tigers and Parra got 35k then the play off would get the same... but again the thinking is wrong here... why do we target one game, when we should be targetting every game to be a sell out... we need to get it to the point where ther is a 1 year wait on some games! Thats what I would love to see. Then it may not be such a problem convincing teams to move. Gee a 20k crowd in Kograh would be great atmosphere... thats what they got for the shrakies this year. Manly have their fans in the media... Sts don't, you can see the knockers all the time.

www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nrl-in-crisis-the-only-way-is-up/story-e6freuy9-1225714490899Whilst ill agree this article is mostly a slur campaign against the club, a kick it when its down article the facts are that the club is more than 10 million in debt. Tony zapia made a plea to the NRL to allow cronulla to partially relocate to the central coast for a number of years. They will sell their home games to whoever makes a bid (which is good for places like adelaide or wellington). The clubs latest attempt to make use of their assets (and rightly so) was to appproach the A-League in regards to playing trial games there (which they did).Whilst it could be argued that assets will bail the club out long term I still don’t see how it can be argued that the sharks are in a decent financial position. I don’t think they did. I think they applied for 1 million but only got half of that. I could end up eating my words though, but im pretty confident they didn’t. In regards to the new stand, it’s a good little stand. Looks modern with a glass-style finish but I still think they could have got more out of the grant. I realise stands are very expensive but it could have been spent more wisely IMO The game needs to expand to new areas. People realise this. They know RL is a great product, the most exciting in the world IMO yet the NRL is pretty much confined to the eastern seaboard. Whilst at the risk of sounding like the super league days I would love to see a team in wellington , a team in adelaide, perth, PNG( years down the track) and maybe even a south island nz team. This is obviously quite a way off for most of them but if it happens with all the current clubs still around we’ll end up with a 30 team comp! people see theres nine or however many teams in sydney and that’s not necessary for one city , no matter how unique sydneys demographics are. The obvious candidates here are Cronulla (overlapping with the dragons in some parts) and roosters. Whilst ill admit there would be some fans lost not all of them will say “screw this im changing to union or AFL”. if they’ve watched the game they’ve probly grown to love it and wont automatically be lost to other sports. Hell the people I know in the bondi area don’t even go for the roosters! Manly are pretty good replacement in terms of the team to hate. I think people realise how strategically important manly are to the sydney market as the only northern team. Whilst you may argue the same for the sharks or roosters I see it another way.

im confident they would have the 40k mark. knights fans love their team a lot and would be more than willing to travel down teh F3 in their droves to support their boys. on top of this the dragons attract very good crowds wherever they go. they were the only team to draw a decent crowd in canberra(just shy of 20k). if a team can do that in canberra with the raiders running 3rd or 4th last theyre well supported. i recently went down to woollongong a few times this year and the dragons were the talk of the town. people from the gong will also make the trip up in their drowves. add the actual st george area to this and 40k looks pesamistic. then again , i am ever the optomist

Good news is if the Dragons, and Bulldogs both win I'll definatley be going to a final week after next, same if Broncos win but let's not hope that's the case. If Titans win and Dragons or Bulldogs lose I won't be going to any. Anyway I guess I'll be going for 1,2,3 and 4 this weekend! Bas news is we have another off field incident with Jason Taylor apparently being knocked out by a player, believed to be David Fa'alogo

No one else heard the rumour that the NRL is going to cease it's current format and go the way of th A-League with a full re-structuring next year. It was in Rugby League Week.

It was in Rugby League Week. and what structure is that? I have heard nothing... see if anything is on the footy show and the roast tonight and sunday. I hope they are not going to more mergers.

Sportsmad people have never liked Manly since our inception. They accused us of stealing players, buying premierships, buying teams best players etc.
There is a sign that a mate of mine has, "No one likes us and we don't care!" that is at most Manly games

haha the sea eagles are actually my local team now that the bears are gone. i dont hate them but i know a lot of people that do. TBH i think theyre really boring. theyre just a boring club. im not saying id prefer to see it scandle ridden but for a team thats the defending premiers you certainly dont hear much about them. they prefer to keep a low profile. im not sure if they put a lot of media bans on their players or whatever it is.....
