"Tennis is still the most popular sport on TV, although its following, too, has declined - from a high of 62 per cent 10 years ago to 53 today. By an odd coincidence, three of the four football codes enjoyed a 10-year high in audience appeal in 2006 (what did they have going for them then?) but have since slipped - football from 49 per cent to 44, AFL from 55 to 49 and rugby union from 39 to 35. Only rugby league is up today. This year, 41 per cent of Australians reported watching it - league's highest rating of the past 10 years."
