RHINOS SEEK FRENCH INFLUENCESuper League champions Leeds are planning to fill the remaining place in their squad for 2009 with a French player. The Rhinos have one space available in their 25-man squad and will use it to try to help the development of the game in France. Last season France forward Eric Anselme made four first-team appearances on loan from Albi but has now signed for Co-operative Championship side Toulouse. Chief executive Gary Hetherington, who travelled to France to watch the French Cup final last season, said: "Over the past few years we have built some very good relations with French clubs and we are looking very closely at players who could fit the bill." Head coach Brian McClennan added: "If we could find someone similar to Eric, I would be very happy."

It's great news I think, a good boost to the National team aswell having a player in one of (if not) the World's best club squad. I'm starting to get excited about the French side next year, they won;t win the 4N but they should have a good team with Catalans players having aniother season under the belt, Toulouse going up in Standard and possibly some overseas players making the switch McGuire and Greenshields come to mind. Whether you think it's right or not if Greenshields or McGuire put their hand up I don't see France overlooking them, Greenshields especially, great player and France don't have much in the no.1 spot.
As for who it is I don't think it would be any Toulouse or Catalans squad players maybe a UTC player. I don't think they'll go with somebody too old either, I'm tipping Greseque, Sabri or the UTC halfback who's name I can't remeber but I remeber Cliff saying he was someone to look out for.
Although the above are all halves and the quote "If we could find someone similar to Eric, I would be very happy." may mean they are looking for a forward.

Well there you go, I've heard of Mayans before and Sabri ofcourse but not the other two. So we have a centre, half, back rower and front rower. I hope a couple of them pick up gigs, nice to see they are going young aswell, although the tongan is 29. So you got a tip to who'll they'll pick Marv, I'll tip Mayans just because he'd be filling one of their weak spots.

Mohammed Tamghart is the brother of Said Tamghart, who played for Oldham last year. Mohammed Tamghart also had a trial period at Oldham last year, but it didnt go too well for him, he got injured and managed to get himself banned for 8 games, 6 of which are still to be served I hope a couple of them pick up gigs, nice to see they are going young aswell, although the tongan is 29. Just a quick one on this point, I think its great these young players will get the chance to learn so much at the top club in SL. But........................... So you got a tip to who'll they'll pick Marv, I'll tip Mayans just because he'd be filling one of their weak spots. ........I would put my house on none of them gaining a contract out of this, the cynical side of me has considered them being merely bodies for Leeds boxing day game, whilst also bringing positive PR for the Leeds club in France.

May well be the case, hopefully not though. I beleive they have 1 spot left and if there aren't better options within their acedemy (?) then I think they give 1 of them a run. I don't expect any of them will get much game time in SL but they may come in handy if injury hits. Well not too long to wait and see.

I dont know Jim, I think the only one worth a spot at Leeds is Sabri, and I dont see how he would fit in for them, we will see, whatever happens it will be good for the players development and, I'm sure it will be good for the LER and French RL
