This from Martyn Saddler on TRL
"The two competitions came up directly against each other on Friday 26 September, when the play-off clash between Leeds and Wigan was on Sky Sports 1, up against the big match between Leicester and Wasps, which was live on Sky Sports 2.
According to TV Sports Markets the Super League clash attracted 321,000 viewers, while the Guinness Premiership match drew 111,000 viewers.
The SL game drew 63,000 male viewers between the ages of 16 and 34 (a key marketing target), while the GP game attracted 5,000 viewers in that category. The SL game attracted 76,000 viewers in the ABC1 category, while the union game drew 48,000 ABC1 males, which again is a key group for marketers.
The news this week suggests that Premier Rugby is seeking a terrestrial partner for its next TV deal, because the popularity of the GP is growing rapidly, reports suggest.
The viewing figures for the NL Grand Finals were 78,000 for NL1, and 44,000 for NL2. The latter was up against Portsmouth v Tottenham on Sky Sports 1, which drew 592,000 viewers.
Given the disparity in publicity, it says a lot about Rugby League that it keeps its audience as high as it is compared to the union code."
