Kevin Walters rates French half Maxime Greseque highlyCATALANS Dragons rugby league coach Kevin Walters says French World Cup halfback Maxime Greseque is in the frame for a 2009 Super League contract. Walters said yesterday he wanted to give home-grown French talent every opportunity at the Perpignan-based club where he will take the reins next month. Greseque is widely regarded as the best halfback in France but, except for a stint with English club Wakefield, has played in the French elite competition instead of stepping up to the next level. Politics is believed to be the chief reason, with Maxime's father, Ivan, a former Test halfback and coach, at odds with Les Catalans owner Bernard Guasch. "I don't know the story but I do know Maxime has plenty of ability," Walters said. "If he performs well in the World Cup, it won't do his contract chances any harm. "They haven't really had a specialist halfback at Catalans since Stacey Jones retired. That's one of the reasons we signed Shane (Perry)." Walters will visit the French team at its Sunshine Coast base tomorrow to catch up with the 11 Catalans players in the squad. The French had a light workout at the Broncos training complex in Brisbane yesterday.

Sounds like Walters wants him at the club, hope the political shit can get sorted and it can happen. Also nioce to hear he plans to develop Frenchies, I was worried when he signed Shane Perry, although by the sounds he is going to play HB next year which does worry me.
Also good to see they trained with the 1st team, I'm sure that is Dave Taylor in the background.

It is good news that the French lads trained with the top lads at the broncos, I would be surprised to see Greseque sign for Catalans, but I hope he does, because it doesnt seem he will ever play SL for an English club.
and jim, Walters has signed Perry to play 7, Bosc will go to 6 Mogg back in the Centres and Sebastien Raguin will move back into the 2nd Row........so I'm told.
