Rabbitohs home in on PerthSOUTH Sydney have confirmed they will play one home game in Perth next year - but they may have competition in their bid to reclaim the west for rugby league. St George Illawarra - at the urging of quarter-owner WIN TV, which has extensive interests in WA -- have invited the Sydney Roosters to play them in a pre-season match at Members Equity Stadium. The Rabbitohs announced Monday that their home game against Newcastle in 2009 would be played at Central Coast Stadium and the Melbourne match would be in Perth. It'll be the first premiership game there since 2005 and the Perth Reds - who are in the Jim Beam Cup - hope it will help their bid for a return to the NRL. Souths members will be offered 14 games - including the ANZ Stadium "away" matches against the Bulldogs and Parramatta. Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan said: "The Dragons have made an attractive proposal that we play them in Perth in the pre-season. We are considering it." Meanwhile, Tongan international Mickey Paea has signed a one-year contract with the St George Illawarra Dragons. Paea, 22, is part of the Sydney Roosters' squad for the first preliminary semi-final against the Warriors on Friday night. "Mickey comes from a dedicated rugby league family and we see great potential in him," Dragons chief executive Peter Doust said.

Great news, lets hope both games can get great crowds, make Gallop take notice.
The Souths V Melbourne game could get upwards of 15,000 depending on how well promoted the game is and how good the teams are going. I believe this year it only got about 9k at Bluetongue Stadium, Central Coast but that was when Souths hadn't won a game yet.
I thought Souths were thinking of 4 games for Perth? maybe there's still more to come.

Promising signs here. Gallop seems disinterested but at least someone's doing something.
