He saidf that on the footy show tonight in regards to expanding the game. Seriously does the guy take notice of wehat goes on? The Reds cuurently get 1500 to most games as far as I know and they aren't going well. In the QLD cup they could probably average 3,000 and even more if they were winning alot. The last NRL game that went to Perth got 14,000 or there abouts. How he comes up with that is beyond me. It was made worse by Fatty saying don't worry about Perth and Adelaide they're 30 years away, concentrate on QLD and NSW. It's things like this that are holding RL back.

F**king muppets, the both of them. They seriously have no concept of what RL is all about... its more than about NSW and QLD. What kind of a kick in the guts is that for the reds at the moment, why should they bother playing JBC and QRL if they have no hope in hell in getting in. Ohhhh frustrating.

Perth would get more then 5,000 and if even they did only get 5,000 it would still be worth it.

Last night on the Footy Show they had a big forum with a player manager, ther Manly CEO, Matty Johns, Sterlo and Fitzy of all people.
The only two people with the common sense and balls to say what needs to be done were Gould and Fitzy, I was quite suprised to see Fitzsimons there. Fitzy quite simply said, Rugby League HAS TO GROW, teams in Perth and Adelaide and cut the teams in Sydney.
All Gallop had to say was there will be gradual increrases in the salary cap and we will try to consolidate NSW and QLD. I'm starting to think Gallop doesn't even have the game's best interest at heart and is not willing to take evn the smallest of risks.
A perth team isn't even that much of a risk, in fact I would say they would be able to average 10,000 from day 1 and that would just grow. The have local talent already, what else can they do?

I also watched it and Gallop is honestly hopeless. I have been to Melbourne and there are local players of NRL quality there, just in Union. They aren't focused on grassroots in Melbourne. Hello... PERTH! They have grassroots level teams, Jim Beam Cup competes against many NRL "reserve grade" sides. As Gallop said they are financially holding up Melbourne. We need a petition. A really big petition. I would not care if Parramatta were cut, the game needs change. People need to accept this. My father had a good idea. Basically he said restart the whole NRL. All the clubs so far can go in local comps then have "provincial" type sides. Canberra, Melbourne, North Sydney, West Sydney, South Sydney, East Sydney. Central Coast, South Coast, New Zealand, Western Australia, Brisbane, Gold Coast, North Queensland. 14 teams and there you go. Who honestly gives a fuck about tradition this is to save our game.

I tend agree Ryan.
Why not do the same sort of thing as Super League with the new franchises. Invite all the current NRL teams to apply, plus places like Perth, Adelaide, Wellington, Central Coast etc. Then make a decision on the best teams based on money, development and facilities, this way we can eliminate all these games at ANZ Stadium. Gallop says some teams are struggling with money and their grounds aren't good enough (the reason they're playing at ANZ) so lets find some teams that can do better. If the current teams are best out there then lets find out for real. I think there's better options out there though. It would be tough to cut some teams with long traditions and history but what about for the good of the game. The Super 14 has no history way more people watch that in NZ than the NPC with all the traditional teams because it is better.
To me Gallop finds excuses or dismisses ideas (Perth) so nothing happens and thus it's makes his job easier. He talked about the lack of interest in Perth and dismissed the idea; why not think about how to create some interest. There must be some interest if their name is being brought up to begin with.
And as for Fatty saying Perth and Adelaide are 30 years away, I know he says a lot of stupid stuff and isn't on Channel Nine for his in-depth comments but this shows his ignorance. Remember Qld had no teams in the competition 30 years ago now they're though of as the stronghold.

I'm a Dogs fan but if they were to be relegated to NSW cup or relocated I wouldn't mind. However, I'm not based in Sydney so rarely get to see games anyway so I guess It's different. WA Reds are essential and Gallop needs to see that. Adelaide can wait 5-10 years but WA should be put in 2012 without question. Central Coast would be a nice place to have a team but no way should it be a new team, if it is it should be at the expense of a sydney club. I am of the opinion the Dragons should switch permantly to Win Stadium in Woolongong. This is what the NRL should look at IMO. - 4 Sydney Clubs (not good on Sydney geography so I won;t name which ones)
- Wollongong - Dragons
- Newcastle Knights
- Central Coast Bears/Bulldogs
- Melbourne Storm
- WA Reds
- Auckland Warriors
- Southern Orcas
- Gold Coast Titans
- Brisbane Broncos
- North Queensland Cowboys
- Ipswich Jets
- Adelaide ?
Also I like the ideas of Sunshine Coast, Central QLD, Darwin/PNG and in time another team in Mebourne but It's hard to fit them all in I suppose. Now this is an eventual goal, not all at once, It may take 10 years to get it looking like this. Now people say we need less teams for more money and we don;t have enough players for 16. Well with Perth, Adelaide and Wellington teams we would get massive increases in TV deals and more juniors coming through in these places.

I think the franchise system with the NL grades the way the UK has done is the way to go... I am seeing the light here. This way teams can be preserved and they can make the most of what ever opportunities thay want.

Yes but you guys have Richard Lewis who is not tainted with a RL heartland background and so actually sees things more clearly. Rather than pumping everything into one area he sees that development needs to come from outside.
He did this with Brit tennis, and now you are starting to see its benefits in that sport as well.

Why do people want the WA Reds back? We should be moving on...create a new team, new name, colours...let the fans choose thats the best way to get local support..
Titans have so much success because of the community getting involved with the club.

Titans have so much success because of the community getting involved with the club. I think the point is more that there should be a WA team. Wheather they end up as the WA reds, or the Magpies as people have suggested on other places really is irrelevant... WA would get a great following. The pro for WA reds is that many people remember them and liked them and it would be a sort of South Sydney re-emerging so to speak. Plus they already have a name for them sleves through the JBC.

It's things like this that are holding RL back. We're two games away from having no NSW or QLD teams in the Grand Final. Two months ago these two guys were pretty much saying forget the rest, rugby league is just NSW and QLD! Where does that leave us if its a Storm v Warriors final?
