I don't think that Russians are so much technically better than our players. As the matter fact, I think that we have technically better players. Ok mate i just was assuming that the Russian clubs entering the challenge cup would have given them the edge in experience and technical ability. Do you think they are fitter because they are almost like semi-pros in Russia? Do you know how often a club like Vereya train. Last time, they beat us just on better fitness, because the rain was so heavy and in second half that decided. I hope for a sunny day on September 20th and anything is possible. Lets hope so Dorcol played two years ago v Vereya and it was about 30 points for Russians (they prepared for their season in Serbia). I think that Lokomotiv and Vereya are still better, maybe not that much. Ok cool as RRL stands at the moment I just dont see progress. Serbia is progressing well and I feel Med cup will be a good step up for them

Six players from Serbia were in Vereya in two waves, and as I heard from them, they didn't need to do nothing, but training. I don't know at the moment how often they had sessions with the ball, but gym works were available as often as they want.
I think that main Lokomotiv and Vereya players are full pros, of course salaries are not like in SL. More time for training gives better fitness, but we must not forget the fact that Russians, as a nation, are genetically "big boys".
I don't know if convincing defeats gave them some experience, but the fact that even "mighty" Lokomotiv loose with high margins in early stages of Challenge Cup tells that they cannot rely just on physical superiority.
OK, maybe I overcharged our chances in match v Russia, but I'm pretty sure that we would gain level close to theirs if we play more often against Russian teams. IMO, ratio of capabilities Serbian/Russian teams is much closer than Russian/BARLA teams, so I think that the statement in previous sentence has sense. But, again, they are still favorites in our clash of Euro-Med Cup.

More time for training gives better fitness, but we must not forget the fact that Russians, as a nation, are genetically "big boys". Ater seeing Loko's results and watching Vereya in person I can safley say that if these guys are fully professional RRL should give up now, Vereya were awful against Ameteur opposition in the Challenge cup I don't know if convincing defeats gave them some experience, but the fact that even "mighty" Lokomotiv loose with high margins in early stages of Challenge Cup tells that they cannot rely just on physical superiority. Playing against better opponents always gives you experience. I agree 100% mate Loko results in Challenge cup proves beyond doubt that Russians Pyhsicality accheives nothing against a better quality player. From what it sounds fully pro players should be doing more and accheiveing more, once again this leads us to the insular klebanov. I dont think you have overcharged your chances. I realise Russia have more experience but I dont think the experience and their training environment will count for much given the lack of progress sinse even 1995 RRL seems to be going backwards, example 4 less teams in RRL, almost same as Serbia now. I hope Serbia can beat Russia or imporve their result from last year

Just having a look around on the Russian site and clicked on the link to Lokomotiv and found something interesting. 2008 Play-off CR 2008 17.00 October 7 SSYA "Luzhniki" 17.00 "Lokomotiv" - "Vereya" Surely that doesn't mean the game will be Luzhniki Stadium?

Yes probably. Jim remember that in mainland europe clubs are structured differently to Oz and UK even. A club like Lokomotive Moscow is involved in many, many sports, soccer, Ice Hokey, Rugby league and others I am sure. they generate moeny from all these pool the monet and spend accordingly to what they need. Its why its a fully pro rugby league club becasue aside from haveing a Rich CEO running the RL side of things they have a large pool of cash they can get some fingers on. Now they will have one home base... a stadium for all football type games with a hall and ice rink and gym all in the one spot... a sports village if you may... and when they promote they promote to all the fans. Sop many fans that come are not only rugby league fans but fans that just support their clun no matter the sport. So Luzhniki stadium is their home ground and probably the larges to accomodate any RL in the Russian championships and so is being used... I wonder if it will get web cast... that would be an interesting game to watch. A few other clubs that come to mind that work like this are Slavia Pargue, Arka Gdynia, Barcelona, Lechia Gdansk, Eintracht Frankfurt and I think Leigh are venturing into this now. In UK you now have League and Union partnerships poping up like Harlequins and Leeds.

Surely that doesn't mean the game will be Luzhniki Stadium? No, definately not Lokomotiv Moscow dont play at the Luzhniki stadium, they play at the Lokomotiv Stadium, all the other Moscow clubs do play at Luzhniki, Torpedo Moscow, Spartak Moscow and CSKA Moscow. For Autistic Level European Soccer Knowledge just ask Marv seriously, The chances are the game will be at one of the other grounds in Luzhniki, as Druzik says its kinda like a sports village (city!) If your interested......... www.luzhniki.ru/eng/luzh.aspx?id=1
