Ok so i couldn't find a place for this thread so i put it under eupore simply because the player that bought this to my attention play SL.
Now that player is Clint Newton. Now Clint has got an article in RLWeek this week saying about his experiences in England and how everyone refers to him as "Jack's son". What really infuriated me however was this statement;
"I've been lined up to play for America in the past but suspensions or injuries have stopped me. It's definatley something that interests me in the future. I am currently going through the process of seeing if I qualify for a european country. So I may be involved in the World Cup, but if not I'll be back home watching it with a few beers".
Now this is BS, who does he want to play for? USA, "It interests me" but obviously not enough to pass up a free trip to Australia to play for a team you don't even know you are eligable for? If it interests you go and make history and be in the first internation held in Jamaica, not free loading off a country that was good enough to make the WC without you. Now how can Newton have passion for this "european country" if he didn't even know if he was eligable? Newton just wants a free trip to Australia and play a few games of footy at the WC, i bet the next time this "european country" plays after the WC newton will be nowhere to be seen.
It's sh*t like this that keeps bringing IRL down!

Yep totally agree with you on that, but look we'll see where his real loyalties lie when August comes round becasue there is most probably gonna be a 5 nations tournament in Hawaii with Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, Japan and USA... see ig he'll go and play for them then. Be great if he does.
But yeah I am with you on this one Jim.

It means "i want to play in the WC, but USA didn't make it and I'm not good enough to play for Australia so I'll try my hand at a weaker country and take some bloke's place who helped them qualify. Also I wanna go back to Australia for a while and this way I can do it for free" I really do hope he isn't eligable so then he can go and play for USA against Jamaica and the 5N tournament. Whether he will or not? depends if he feels like it.

Well Willie mason plays for Aus, he is not swaping alegiences or anything, so he is OK.
I know that many players are eligible for say two different nations... that is fine, but they need to stick with one nation only. Not jump back and forwards as they please.

I'm referring to him representing Tonga in the 2000 WC (?) and then switching to Australia. I'm a firm believer of 1 player, 1 country and you must choose and not play for whoever you qualify for when it suits you.

OK didn't realise that was the case, Tequiri is another that falls in that category. He played for Fiji and then went onto Aussie rep. honours.

OK so since we are on the topic of Layalty.
There is one person I want to priase. Now last year I met Iestyn Hariis, the guy impressed me heaps, was great to talk to and seemed just full of enthusiasm.
In this months RLW magazine ther is a full spread on him and his career... WOW! Now talk about loyalty to his country. The guys not only initially resisted moves to go to RU (he eventually did due to money considerations) but then got sick of it cam back to RL, was a great GB stalwart but every time Wales needed him he was there leading from the front. He was a pssionate welshman and still is and this is the kind of guy that I have the time of day for.
Looks like this will be his last season and I hope that he goes out on a high. Shame wales did not make the WC.
