I have just been thinking, since PNG had massive potential seeing as they have 5 million people and they are all RL nuts I feel the NRL/ARL should help them out.
What I would propose is this; for the all NRL, SOO and Internationals games played in NZ and Australia raise every ticket price $2 and give $1.50 to PNGRL and divide the rest between Tonga, Fiji, Samoa and NZ.
Very few people would notice the price increase and it would generate alot of money that the Pi's so desperatley need.
Since alot of the crowds would be members maybe raise non-ticket memberships $1-2 and add another $10-20 to ticket mebership packages.
Now these simple steps that very very few if any would notice or mind would generate alot of money. This money could go towards building a new (or redevloped) 25-35k seat stadium in Port Moresby. A new stadium like this would be a major draw-card for touring teams and would no doubt sell out for internationals and SP cup finals. I think with a new stadium you could have atleast 2 or 3 international games hosted there each year which would then generate profit aswell.
What do people think? would a strategy like this work? maybe people can suggest another idea.
Just think if 4 million total turned upto origin, NRL and international games that would be $6 million to PNG and $2 million between Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, NZ and Cooks and other small pacific islands. Based on Population maybe something like this:
PNG - $6m NZ - $1m Fiji - $500k Tonga - $200k Samoa - $200k Cooks- $50k Other Islands (niue, tokelau etc.) - $50k
Once PNG have enough funds to cover the new stadium the $ could be more evenly contirbuted and maybe distrubuted to more places like SA, Japan, USA, Western and South Australia, Victoria.
SL could do something very similar with surrounding countries like Germany, Italy, Wales, France, Russia etc.
Mainly though this idea would benifit PNG as they are already RL nuts just lack the $.

Thanks for the team lists Kev.
Does anyone know where Ompalus Kua is playing these days? He played for Wellington and PNG last year but with no Bartercard Cup this season I have no idea what happened to him.
