England Beat Australia. France beat New Zealand and Australia New Zealand beat England.
England 4 France 4 New Zealand 3 Australia 1
Would it be right to kick France out next year?

No, they never should have been kicked out anyway, how is going back to Ireland, Wales etc going to help them develop into a team capable of challanging the big countries. France should be permanent and it should either be a 5N with rotation for the 5th spot like now or a 6N. If France win against Aus or NZ then I think the RLIF will have to have a good look at the situation.

You can't have a 10 team world cup then a 6 team competition every year, it would be a bit like having an annual world cup. Cap it at the 4 nations, I think. If France can prove that they are worthy of an automatic spot then they should get one. I just think if you have too many teams you will dilute the product.

There needs to be room for expansion in the 4N. Eventually it will need to become a 5N or 6N to allow for upcoming teams to develop and challenge the bigger teams.
I think its pretty safe to say the next WC will be more than 10 teams, my guess is 12.

France finished last at the 2008 World Cup. Exactly which shows they shouldn't be guaranteed of a spot. I think if France can prove that they are not the worst team of the four then they should not be automatically sent back to the European Cup. That is a long way off happening.

I think despite tonights thrashing they have still shown enough to warrant not being dropped out. For their B team to give the kiwis a run for over half the game is a good effort and it was in no a suprise that semi-pro players dropped off in the last 25. If they had all thier missing players on the park tonight I think the margin would have been below 20.

France finished last at the 2008 World Cup. well... according to that was their place in this years 4N justified...?
It's too late now... but questions need to be asked...
Personally I'd like to see the 4N become a 5 nations... and why not?
You'll always have the 'big 3' NZ, Aus & Eng... and then you can include the winner of the yearly PC & EC join as well, which would be earnt on merit, and their place in the comp could not be questioned...

Well the big problem is that how would you deecide the two extra teams for the tournament? Without making it all look mickey mouse and de-valuing it? Another issue is that it starts too look too much like the Rugby Union 6 Nations. The solution is an easy one though... one that kills two birds with the one stone: Make all the tournaments one offs in a 4 year cycle and have the positions in a 6 Nations (RLIF Cup) and a second tier 4 Nations (Federation shield) determined from placing in the Regional touenaments. I talk about this in my bloh from last week here.
