they should make it on their own merit. if in 3 years they have progressed significantly (especially USA) then they should have every chance of making it on their own

Sure what ever teams dont make it the next best 8 should have an emerging nations WC (or something called like that) where they are the openers to the tournament proper this way you get to see two internationals for the price of one! Dividing the world's teams into 2 or 3 divisions and having them play against each other prior to the world cup, as is done in ice hockey and cricket, would benefit every country.

I don't really know if the Atlantic area would be ready for an automatic placing in 2011/12. Maybe give them two spots in the repechage but I don't think you should let them go in because of the area oon the globe which they represent. But who's to say by 2012 USA, South Africa or Jamaica won't be in the top 12? If the USNRL gets up and running USA are a good chance and South Africa could have some NRL players by then. Jamaica have a decent list of overseas players eligable aswell as a solid domestic comp. USA based on 08 qualifying results are 12-14 with Wales and Russia.

I was just saying that currently they do not deserve automatic spots and they should not be given automatic spots for the sake of having the USA at the World cup. If they are up to it of course they should have auto entry.

I agree KF, we shouldnt be putting nations in just becasue of their location, like Lebanon in 2008, they werent there because they didnt do enough during the qualification.
