does anyone know the elegebility of jaryd hayne? if they can get players like uate, millard and even ashton simms on board again then they should be able to field a decent team. theres a couple of players that were sent to play in the new south wales comp in the coffs harbour region. will be interesting to see how theyve progressed. new zealand will be a force to be reconed with with the likes of kevin locke , frank pritchard , benji marhsall , roy assatasi etc
as for the upcoming game of png v fiji (a now annual even thanks to sponsorship) i think png will win on home ground advntage but this is a mouth watering clash as they are the best of the rest IMO

Things seem to be coming along in the Pacific now. Some money is starting to come through from outside the WC which is great to see.
I think the NZ team wont have Benji in there, it will be fringe players with a few stars to help them warm up I think as some will be involved in Finals footy. Still its great to see.
Jaryd Hayne... he's turned his back on Fiji I think.

Is there any other news on this? No one I've spoken to in NZ had any idea about it.

Is there any other news on this? No one I've spoken to in NZ had any idea about it. I spoke with someone with links to the ARL/RLIF last week... seems that the NZ govt is "politely" asking the NZRL not to go to Fiji.... now since when can a govt do that?

Haha, when I heard about it I forgot about the political situation in Fiji. As far as I see it definately won't happen.

That said, if we can't go to Fiji, why can't we go to Samoa or Tonga instead?

Samoa play the Cooks to qualify for the Pacific Cup in October, NZ could play Tonga the same weekend. It would be a good warm-up for both teams. Didn't NZ & Tonga play for some new annual trophy at Mt Smart last year???

its because frank bainimarama took over as leader of fiji in a coup a few years back. most countries discourage a person coming to power in this way as is goes against all priniciples of democracy. fiji have now been expelled from the pacific forum as bainimarama vows not to cave to aus and nz and says he wont hold elections until something like 2013/2014. some sanctions are in place but the main point nz wants to get across here is that life cant go on as normal until someone is democratically elected.
i agree with the point that someone made here that theres no reason they cant tour samoa or tonga.
