Union below S14 is always poorley supported. CRL games get bigger crowds than shute shield games! Look hardly anyone watches Union on Pay TV... the FTA networks will not tough it with a barge pole. RU would have to compete aginst the NRL, now ESL and SoO, there si no way. CH9 despite their ineptness have got a great product that is just a juggernaught... AFL needs 2 channels to get anywhere near the NRL... and now the NYC also being televised as well. What would be the icing is the ABC picking up the QRL/NSWRL games on Saturday afternoons again. ABC Brisbane have been covering the "Match of the Round" from the Queensland Cup since 1996. Each match is televised live from 2:00pm into Queensland. ABC Sydney covers the Shute Shield. They ought to ditch it and cover the NSW Cup.

I might ask ABC Sydney why they don't cover the NSW Cup. Surely it would appeal to more people than the Shute Shield.

worth a try, but I bet its a bunch of Unionites that sit in ABC sydney and control that. Its like the BBC in the UK... its all under RU control, so they will spend 600 million on the 6N but wont even put ESL on FTA, even though it out reates anything the Union has.

I suppose the main reason te ABC cover the Shute Shield is because it's one of the oldest club rugby union competitions in the world. That and the fact it would be going head-to-head with Fox Sports' coverage of the NYC.
